    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. Everyone showed great enthusiasm for what they did and this made it a very worthwhile experience.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that the work that I was set genuinely added value to the company and therefore I felt as if I was useful to those around me.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I sat next to my manager who was there to advise and support with any task that I was set.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied from day to day, depending on what work there was to do. Some days I would be working all day with stuff to do and others I would be less busy. However, we were also set a group project to do which filled the gaps during which I would have otherwise been quiet.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility, however some things I was unable to do due to restrictions on the sensitivity of information which therefore limited the amount of responsibility that I could actually have. I do however feel that I was given as much responsibility as could possibly have been given to me, and this involved speaking to various people from all the offices around the world, joining in on meetings with clients and working on projects that bring value to the company.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed would put me in great stead for a career in the insurance industry. The 'lunch and learns' gave a good insight into the different areas of the company and the industry on the whole and I will certainly leave in a much stronger position than I started.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere was great. My team were always happy to help and speak to me and they all showed a lot of enthusiasm. My manager ensured I got involved with all aspects of the company, both in and out of the office and there is never a shortage of people in the pub after (or during) work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. Even though it was the first year of the new internship scheme, it was run exceptionally well and I don't have any complaints about anything.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were invested in in terms of being paid to be on the intern scheme however the personal training and development seems to take place more on the graduate scheme instead of the internship.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good social scene, helped out a great deal by HR who organised many events for us including a ping pong bar social, a cocktail making social and lots of internal events to ensure that we all got on well.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In the centre of London so very good nightlife

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of opportunities with the company sports teams - over the 8 weeks I got involved in the football and touch rugby teams as well as joining the internal gym. On top of this there were lots of opportunities to go to the pub with other employees which proved a great opportunity to network.
