The Role
I really enjoyed my time at American Express. The work environment was really laid back and casual; not your corporate suit and tie as most people would expect. The work ethic here was really nice as well, I was given a lot of freedom where choosing work was concerned and I wasn't micro-managed which really allowed me to thrive and learn a lot.
The work environment was really friendly, and there was constant and clear communicate between myself and other members on a team. I really felt valued on the project I worked on and it was nice to be assigned a meaningful project whereas some other companies will just give interns 'busy work'.
The support was fantastic. We had weekly feedback reviews which our recruitment team spent a lot of time reading over and trying to arrange everything that we asked for. Everyone was very approachable and always willing to help, with any issues no matter how small.
I always had lots of work to do, however the work/life balance is managed very well here. While I had a lot of work it was easy to make the switch between work and play on a daily basis. The support given by my team and recruitment managers really made a big difference in this aspect.
I was in a team with two other interns. While there was oversight and management we were very much left to our own devices to develop the application as we saw fit.
I learned invaluable skills on my internship. Mainly technology based in new technologies, but also my overall confidence, presentation skills, networking and meeting new people.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very relaxed. The work environment was very open and encouraged communication. Campus also setup a number of cool and fun events to lighten the mood such as a Wii tennis tournament and paper plane competitions.
The organisation of the placement was brilliant. There was frequent and clear communication throughout and my placement leaders and recruitment team were always available to answer any questions.
The company invested a lot of time in helping me to develop my skills and learning new technologies.

Not sure on my final decision yet but I'd love to work for AMEX.
The Culture
Myself and fellow interns/grads got on really well and there were constant social events going on which were loads of fun.
Brighton as an area is quite expensive, with some prices being similar to London, but if you are careful you can still get cheap deals.
The nightlife was quite good, however not as good as other places I have lived/visited such as Southampton where I go to University.
There were some opportunities outside of work, but not very many.
