The Role
A great place to work, and an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. The internship programme allowed me to experience various different aspects of a large financial services business. Full of like minded employees and interns and that made the summer even more fun and enjoyable. I was presented with great opportunities throughout the 10 weeks.
Extremely. I felt like a member of the team from the first day.
Whenever I needed help or support my buddy, manager and director were there to assist me.
Inevitably, some days are busier than others. Overall however I felt like I had an extremely manageable amount of work, which allowed for time for me to meet other people in different areas of the business.
A lot. I created a dashboard that my team will continue to use once I've left. Therefore, I feel as if I was given a lot of responsibility from the get go as my team were dependent on me completing that task,
I developed a number of skills during my time at Amex, partially due to the training I received but mainly due to the nature of the work you do and the responsibility you're given. Support is there if you need it, but you're encouraged too gain a greater understanding of the business on your own by meeting new people who can also help you massively with the projects you're set. Also, you develop great communication skills along with a much better understanding of Excel.
The Company
Very relaxed and fun. Work life balance is important at Amex, and it makes the experience more worthwhile.
Very well. The internship programme gives you the tools to gain a greater understanding of how Amex operates as a company on a very regular basis. The 'speaker series', where interns meet and listen to senior leaders in the business, was very insightful for all of us. The projects were clearly organised prior to starting which gave me a clear goal I had to achieve from the get go. Also, the internship allowed us to take part in community development initiatives Amex run. Various different social events were put on, too.
The company definitely invests in training you to be a suitable candidate to work within the company.

The Culture
Definitely. All of the interns based in the London office got on really well.
I was lucky enough to live at home, however prices in bars surrounding the office were not too expensive. I thought it would be worse.
