    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Amex, such a great company to work for. I was given real responsibility from day one and was expected to deliver key outcomes. I had a great team and intern network which made my time very enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Previous to Amex I did an industrial placement where I was treat like a number and was expected to deliver set repetitive tasks. But at Amex you seen as much more than that, they treat you as rare talent. They invest time in you and are interested to hear your views and thoughts, this was extremely encouraging.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Didn't too much support from my manager, I found myself reaching to other people and team members to get the information I needed for my project. In a way this worked better, I wasn't spoon fed or told what to do, I had to use my initiative and build a network which enabled me to get the answers. Amex is a collaborative environment which takes some getting used to, but its brilliant!

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My busyness fluctuated, some days I had back to back meetings and others I had free afternoons. I learnt quickly that you have to look for the work and go out and meet people to press ahead with your project. Naturally, there is some waiting to hear back from other colleagues, but its important to utilise that time by doing something productive, I used these opportunities to network in other business areas.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was 100% responsible for my project - I had to collect the data and provide a recommendation. It was my responsibility to ensure I delivered and met the project objective.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed a range at skills throughout my time at amex. I feel that I have learnt more in the 10 weeks with Amex than I have in my 2 years at Uni. I have been pushed out my comfort zone and encouraged to share my ideas. I have demonstrated my ability to adapt to the working life, I used to think a 9am lecture was tough....

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Extremely lively - lots of competitions and themed days - lots of food always about which isn't good when your on a diet!! A very collaborative way of working, everyone I met had a general interest in what it was that I was doing.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Amazing - cant fault it. This scheme was perfectly executed from assessment centre all the way through to a farewell party. We had multiple undergraduate days, meeting the other interns from other offices. There was only a small group of us, therefore we were given 1:1 support and encouragement.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • heavily!! we had weekly meetings with Vice presidents from various areas of the business they took the time to give us an overview of their department. We attended a 2 day induction in the London Office where we were taught Excel skills and given an overview of the scheme. We had a mid programme review and a final review- we were always asked to share our experience.
