    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a great year and 3 months working in the DANiS ISIT department. I was allowed to get involved in many different types of projects which has given me an opportuntiy to meet a lot of great professionals and friends. Everyone is very friendly and always helpful which creates a great atmosphere to work in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues always appreciated the work I put into my role and this work is rewarded with incentive trips with the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt that I was given adequate support throughout the year and was always given feedback whether it was good or bad which has helped me develop my skills. Colleagues and my manager were very responsive when it came to questiones and I felt empowered as a result.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was invovled in many projects throughtout the year which kept me busy, I did a lot of research work, testing and requriements gathering- all of which I found very interesting.. As well as this I had day to day tasks which I had to learn to prioritise- these tasks added value to the business in many ways which is rewarding in-itself

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given ownership over my day to day tasks which means I was resposible on making sure they were completed well and ontime- I also had to consider this in my handover plan when it came to handing over my tasks to my replacement- therefore the placement scheme in the ISIT department is a sustainable role which adds a lot of value to the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study ITMB at University which stands for Information Technology Management for Business and therefore had direct correlation with my role at Danone as the ISIT placement. I have developed many relevent skills throughout the year, for example communication, tehnical, leadership and teamworking skills. All of these skills I can comfortably take back to my final year of studies which will allow me to perform with a lot of confidence.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was always very friendly and easy going. Most people are very approachable which makes it easier to perform in your role. Teams tend to be very close as well with frequent after work activities- whether its sport, charity events or grabbing a drink with colleagues.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Considering the fact that I had a change of manager during the year-the overal organisation of the placement scheme was really good. My tasks and responsibilties were made aware to the relevant managers which meant that I could focus on my work and my managers were always happy and ready to answer any questions or concerns thar I had. It was also easy to ask members of the team for more work and invovlement in projects which is great for development.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My managers was always ready to give me feedback- whether it was good or bad which was done in a coaching format. Considering that my manager is based in Ireland this meant that valuable time had to be invested in me. I was also given training modules to compelte both in a classroom based scenario and online content. This helped me perform better in my role and adequately support the business.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are many areas to get involved in around the organisation. I have spoken to many people who suggest the Danone graduate scheme which is something I may look into doing in order to broaden my on-the-job experience. There is a lot of potential for moving around and developing into an all round young professional.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene at Danone was great. There were regular events organised amongst the graduates and placment students which was really good, particularly at the start as it helped battle anxiety and helped settle into the company much quicker. In my case there were also many social events organsied within the ISIT department, particulalry the famous drinks on Friday evenings- this was a really good team bonding experience and helped develop relationships within the team.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the placement role is based in London the cost of living is relatively high- with high rental costs and travel fees. Danone does provide a good salary to their placements which is more than enough to comfortably live in London for a year- there are also incentives providing by Danone such as discounted gyms which can save you some money.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in some worthwhile events at Danone. An example is the " Danone Nations Cup" which is a football event organissed by Danone in each country of operation. Schools from each country compete to become the school that will ultimately represent their country at the final event which is staged in a different famous stadium every 2 years. Volunteers from Danone are needed in order for these events to run smoothly and there are a number of tasks/activities for employees to manage.
