The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would recommend for anyone with an interest in the food industry to do it. It provided me with so much experience in many different areas and has opened my eyes to the vast array of opportunities within the industry.
Everyone was willing to help you, curious about who you were and keen to make sure you were enjoying working within the company. So you always felt valued.
There was always someone around you could ask if you needed help eve if you couldn't get in touch with your manager. Everyone was happy to hep and everyone appeared invested in genuinely improving you as a person and furthering your career as well as making sure you were enjoying it.
It was always full on, however I would prefer this than being bored and sitting with nothing to do.
I was given a project to do and trusted many times by my supervisor to go out, arrange meetings and experience new things by myself. I know that the work I have done will eventually be used to improve an area of the department I was working within.
The skills I have gained will be invaluable. This internships has provided me with so many opportunities and different experiences that will assist me in furthering my career. Whether this be by discovering fields I definitely don't want to work in, making amazing contacts or gaining skills I never even knew I was lacking in.
The Company
It is rare you would be in the office for the whole week. So when you were in the office it was more work focused, the atmosphere meant you were able to concentrate but there was always something going on.
It was the first time the internship had been run, so it meant that there was lots of control to make the placement what you wanted. It depended on each mentor as to how it was organised so no one’s experience was the same. Personally mine was very well organised.
The company provided us with so many opportunities. We were on training schemes almost every Friday, each of which taught us new skills not always directly involved in the area we were in, for example project management.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
It would be an amazing place to work.
The Culture
There was always opportunities to go out and socialise. Sometimes this would be arranged by the company in the early weeks and later on it became more independent.
London is expensive, but the salary from the internship meant you were able to afford to go out.
It's London.
