    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have very much enjoyed this placement. I have found that the work has been challenging at times although from this I feel like my skills have improved throughout the placement such that my confidence has grown in dealing with the technical side of the placement and interacting with others from the department, also in communicating with other summer interns and graduates.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During the placement, I have always felt supported by colleagues and their openness has lead to a very friendly working environment. Whenever I had a technical problem with my work, I never felt afraid to go and ask someone if they had encountered a similar problem. I felt that being introduced to the department on the first day aided this.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has always remained very approachable and the definition of my objectives at the start of the placement have proved invaluable in making sure that my focus has been on the correct task. By visiting me, my manager maintained a friendly work relationship which was essential when it came to problem solving during completion of tasks.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I feel like I was kept at a constant busyness throughout this placement, with tasks left to me to start/complete independently, something which I felt was a true reflection of what working full time at the company would entail. I never felt too busy during the placement and the work given to me was sufficiently challenging and of interest.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • An ample amount of responsibility was given to me throughout the placement, such that a definition for a task was given and I was given the freedom to complete tasks independently, something which I very much enjoyed. I was always aware that colleagues were always willing to help, which made the responsibility less daunting.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training I received with regards to learning particular software packages was invaluable in that I was shown capabilities of software new to me and I was encouraged to learn independently how best to utilise the software, a skill which is essential in my degree studies. The technical side of the placement will help me in problem solving and is relevant to the technical content in my degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a friendly and approachable atmosphere in the office, with a comfortable amount of noise for working (such that you wouldn't get distracted) but it was never felt that you shouldn't be talking, if a problem needed to be discussed with a colleague. The work orientated atmosphere was vital in assisting concentration at the task at hand.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was very impressed by the professionalism and quality of the information and material given to me throughout the employment and induction process. I felt like the HR team were very approachable and that I was always able to raise any queries with the team about the placement, and any technical matters about the term of employment.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During the placement, I was not given any particular training and development (specific training courses). I was shown how to deal with particular software packages in my placement by my manager and members of the team, something which improved both my technical ability and confidence in dealing with technical content.

  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would say that the prospect of being employed at MBDA are very appealing, I would be very happy to work for a company which cares about the welfare of its employees and is constantly asking employees for ways of how to improve its services and the way which it approaches tasks. I have heard no complaints from graduates with the company, which is testament to the quality of investment from the company in recruiting.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • In the summer placement/undergrad/graduate community, I was always felt welcomed by others, and it was very interesting to chat with other summer placement students about their experiences (in a similar timescale spent at the company to myself) and to the graduates, especially with regards to the structure and content of the graduate program. Social activities were organised.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I would say that the living costs of the area that I worked in was manageable. Although house rent was more expensive than what I pay in University, I felt that it wasn't a problem due to the low travel costs to and from work, and that the salary I received was more than adequate for covering the basic needs of utilities during my internship.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Although not a party animal, I felt that the nightlife was adequate in the local area. I was not particularly active in sampling the local nightlife during my placement, although I never found a problem in finding a place for relaxing and playing pool with fellow interns when the time allowed.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There seemed to be more than ample opportunities in activities outside of work. MBDA have multiple sports clubs which are more than adequate for catering for the needs of employees wishing to partake in sport in an informal and friendly atmosphere outside of work. Trips were also organised and I was always felt welcome to join.
