    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • CA provided opportunities and responsibilities I would never have got elsewhere. I was pushed beyond my limits and challenged in many different ways but I have definitely grown and developed because of it. CA want you to be the best you can be and put you forward for events and tasks you wouldn't necessarily volunteer for yourself. These events and tasks help you become more employable through experience and it taught me to grab the opportunities with both hands by the end of the year.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Its easy for companies to turn around and know the placement students as exactly that. I'm not sure if its because I was one of two placement students but I would never be referred to as that and would never be treated as one. Everyone knew my name and valued my opinion in meetings just as much as anybody elses, and it's great to build the confidence to voice your opinions as this is beneficial for me as well as the company. I felt highly valued from the start and it has set very high expectations from my employers in the future.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had constant support throughout my Placement year. Not just from one person but from many. I knew who to go for for different problems and my support built more and more throughout. I was guided the right way within my teams and from then I used my initiative which was rewarding throughout. The ongoing support from my managers from a personal perspective was also second to none and i appreciate it all.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally I prefer to be busy, that way I don't get bored. At CA you get a real balance, I had days where I wouldn't have many meetings or many deadlines so would just work at my own pace completing tasks. Other days I would have a full day of meetings and so many deadlines which would test me in prioritizing and succeeding; another important skill I have come to develop.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This varies depending on what is going on. Daily tasks don't require much responsibility but if they're your tasks then it's all down to you. It came to me not needing approval and just cracking on with things myself. I was organizing event for 300+ people on my own and at one point I was the project manager for a live broadcast in Paris which was a lot of responsibility, and was overly rewarding when it was a success. So it varies depending on the scale of the tasks, but if you show your managers you're capable, they put all their trust in you. Which is nice but scary at the same time!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I could not have asked of anything more from CA. The skills and training I have received have set me up perfectly for my career and I know what i'm capable of now. Not only will it help when coming to organisation and priorities in my final year at uni, but my presentation skills and execution of work is likely to be of higher standard. CA has given me such a strong base to develop my career and I'm excited to see where I go next.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The people culture in the company is lovely, everyone is approachable and easy to get on with. The facilities in the workplace are absolutely incredible and I would definitely come back. Because CA is working towards a generational diverse workforce, there isn't too many younger employees, but this is definitely getting better!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The best thing about the placement is that its flexible, there is no set 'to do' list and this is why I fell into some of the amazing events and tasks I did. Depending on what is going on at CA will depend on what you're doing, and I really enjoyed the spontaneity and I much prefer this to a structured step by step year.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company put me in some situations that i was not prepared for, things that really tested me, but I have definitely become a better person because of it. CA has so many online training courses I was able to develop specific knowledge which i could apply to the business. CA spent time training me to be able to speak to the media and this is highly valued. I couldn't thank the company enough for the time and effort they've invested in me. It also reassured me what I am able to do and that i shouldn't take a back seat when there's an opportunity right in front of me.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I will always consider CA for a future prospect. The experience overall, the facilities and the people is something that will always keep me interested. I will definitely keep in touch with a lot of people I have interacted with here and will always keep CA in mind when looking for jobs. I just need to decide what role I want to do.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Being one of two placement students there wasn't a social aspect at first. However the more I got to know people in the business the more we went out and would create our own social scenes. Team meetings always offer a social aspect and it was really nice to do team bonding exercises and interact with your team on a personal level. However as a different generation of people, there is more opportunity for this. I still made my own social life outside of CA so had a great time both inside and out of the business.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It can be what you want it to be, no where around London is cheap but I would't say it was overly expensive. It is what you want it to be, the more you know the area the more you know what places to stray away from.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Similar to the above, you make what you want out of it. Not far from London and there are some really good places not too far from here. Windsor is a very social place and I definitely chose the right place to live. But it's what you get out of it more than anything else, but i've had some of my best nights out around here and in London.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are always opportunities for this you just have to find them. Being a hockey player i searched for local teams and joined one. The same way I could have joined football/rugby clubs. I'm not sure what activities are around the area other than sport but i have no doubt there's a lot.
