    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement year here at Golfbreaks.com. It has been an amazing opportunity to experience the life of a professional and I have gained so much knowledge and experience from it. These skills I have learnt I will be able to use for the rest of my personal and professional life which is a great resource to have.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have felt like an important member of the marketing team since the start and I know that I have proved myself as a solid team member. The marketing team here at Golfbreaks is a very close team and we all value each other and the work we all do.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have been given almost all the support that I have needed, especially from my main managers. They have always had my back and given me support about work and the general aspects of working in an office.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been incredibly busy since day one and to me this has only been a positive thing as I'd rather have plenty of things to do than to sit by my desk and wait for new tasks to come my way. My workload has always been very high with different tasks every week.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My placement has been very special and as I previously stated, I have felt like a valued member of the marketing team. I have had plenty of responsibility of the webpages for the company and also worked alongside Google with PPC which has been an amazing opportunity and a vital aspect to get right for the business.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My year here with Golfbreaks.com has taught me so many different things. Skills that are very work and marketing specific but also skills including team work, communication, IT and more. These skills will be brilliant to have with me when I return to Uni for my final year of my degree as project and group work will be crucial and also dissertation etc.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office is in general very good. The company's employees are fairly young and this makes the chat and general feeling very nice and bubbly. The company employees people who not only have the skills needed but they also take into consideration how well a new person would suit the company and if they would be a good match or not. This has certainly made the atmosphere good because most people find similarities among each other which brings us all closer as a company.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This placement scheme has been set up for years now and it does show how well prepared they are to take on around 20 placement students every year. The structure is well prepared and there are always improvements made and new parts added to the placement year as a whole. For example, this year was the first year that Golfbreaks.com held a mini-competition for us placements called "Directors Den" which is based on the TV show Dragons Den. This was a fun initiative and a process that I think we all learned a lot from. The structure is overall very organised and I only have positives to say about that.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company and the marketing team have spent a lot of time in training me and the other placements and this has been a great opportunity for us to grow as individuals. I feel like the company did invest in me and they now trust me and my business skills enough to let me make some decisions for the e.g. website.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future opportunities are very appealing and I would definitely consider coming back here if I was offered the chance to. It has been a great experience at a great young company and I do feel like I have fit in properly with the people and different departments. I also feel like I have found what area I would like to work with in the future thanks to this placement year.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social side of things has been good this year. The company's employees are all fairly young so there has been plenty of after works and good times outside of the office. Windsor as a town is not the biggest but it has some great pubs and bars and also a few night clubs where we have had a few nights out in. The company also hosts two big company events for all employees and these are so much fun to be a part of!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Windsor is not the most cheap area to live in and the rent for houses and flats are quite expensive. Same with nights out and food and drinks but there are some good places to go when you want a cheaper night out. Around Windsor there is also Slough, Staines, Egham and Maidenhed where more shopping etc. can be found for a cheaper price than in Windsor.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is fairly good in Windsor for being a fairly small city/town. There are pubs and bars and also a few nightclubs around the area and if people want a bigger night out there are quick trains into London that run every day and night. The is also a good comedy club and some cool cocktail bars which are worth a visit!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There have been activities around the office and FAM trips around in England and abroad. These have been so much fun and great experiences that I will always remember from this year. Since we are a golf travel company there have been a lot of golfing days and venue visits as well over the year which has been great fun as well.
