    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This internship has been highly enjoyable. We have had a couple of training days in London, which has allowed us to meet fellow interns across the UK. I particularly enjoyed going to Bradenham which provided a more relaxed environment for us all to get to know each other better. Working in the office has also been fun as everyone is very welcoming and puts you at ease straight away.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued as everyone was always happy to help me with any work and answer my questions. They always took time out of their busy days to give me feedback which helped me complete one of my goals for the internship.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A lot of support was given to be, especially by my people manager. Everyone in the office was always happy to help and I helped me in not feeling like an annoyance if I had to ask them multiple questions throughout the day.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My business really did vary depending on the day. There were some days where I had very little to do, and others where I was busy from 8:45 until 5:15. The days went quickest when I had work to do, and I know that everyone tried to delegate all the interns work as best they could given that summer is usually a quiet time. Even when I had no work to do, I could always work on my presentation for the day until I was given any work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think I was given a fair amount of responsibility. Everything done gets reviewed so there was no pressure on us to do outstanding work and to have it all be correct. The main responsibility we were given was organising a fundraiser for the charity Lend with Care. This, and also travelling to London either by myself or with the other interns.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think this internship has taught me some basic life skills. Things as simple as what you should to make a good first impressions or as difficult as giving a good presentation. In my degree, I do a presentation every year, so there is no doubt in my mind that the things I learnt from two days at Bradenham will put me in good stead for that. As for the finance side, my degree is not finance related so all the stuff I have learnt on the job will be mostly irrelevant, other than working in an office environment and building rapport with clients and colleagues.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was very friendly and you would be hard-pushed to find moments of complete silence. Everyone was willing to help and I liked how there were free fruit baskets that we could have stuff from everyday. I like how the office is open plan, which encourages interaction amongst employees.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised - I could not fault it. There was no point where I asked a question about something that no one could answer.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt very invested in by the firm. The trips down to London and Bradenham made me feel cared about and it encouraged us to make relationships with other interns, as well as those that already work at GT and were taking part in the day.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I was to choose a career in finance, GT would definitely be a top choice.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns all got along really well and the many socials after work were good for getting to know other co-workers.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in Edinburgh with my parents, so travelling through everyday was quite expensive. Restaurants and bars in Glasgow are relatively cheap and as it is a student area, there are many places which offer student discounts.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I am yet to go on night out in Glasgow, but I have been well informed from friends that go to university in Glasgow that it is great! Bamboo always seems to come up in those conversations.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities of social events, but other than that there did not seem to be much. However, given it was quite a short internship of only 6 weeks, any opportunities would have been a bit of waste I think in all honesty.
