    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It's been a really fantastic experience. The people made a huge difference as GT attracts a great kind of person - open, friendly, welcoming and willing to help. It's been pretty slow in the office as it is slow season in the finance world and when you're not busy it can be a bit boring, but equally as long as you're showing willing and actively looking for work you aren't going to get into any trouble as the managers understand that even associates are finding it difficult to find work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much so. Directors even were actively seeking help and were grateful for what we did, and they were also very happy to help out when you had a problem. It was made very clear that we were there in the capacity to help rather than just the annoying interns who didn't really know what they were doing and were an inconvenience for the weeks we were there.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My personal line manager was not very hands on but there were other managers who were incredibly involved and constantly seeking work to give us, and always happy to take 5-10 minutes (sometimes upwards of 30 mins!) to explain a task to us and ensure we were making effective use of our time here.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It depended on the day. Some days I barely stopped to eat but most of the time it came and went, with the odd day where I had nothing to do at all as there just wasn't the work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was treated as if I was a new starter on the grad scheme and allowed to do things that they would do. I didn't have direct contact with clients via email but this is normal for a new grad and for associates all emails to clients are reviewed anyway. I really felt like a part of the team rather than an extra pair of hands.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I intend to go into this line of work so the skills I have learnt will be invaluable. As far as my degree is concerned the accounting side is not so relevant, but as I give lots of presentations the (fantastic) presentation workshop at Bradenham was incredibly useful.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was very friendly. The associates (and execs in some cases) all hotdesk which means that it's very social. It's also a very young office which means that everyone has a lot in common and can chat while we work. Everyone is so approachable so you're never afraid to ask for help.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was generally very well organised. The induction was well planned as well as the national conference and social evening. There was a training workshop at Bradenham Manor, a manor house in West Wycombe owned by GT. Day to day we set ourselves clear goals/objectives but we were left to spread our wings quite a bit and it was nice to have that independence as it made it slightly less artificial.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a lot of training to do online which was a little dull but overall beneficial. There was a fantastic workshop at Bradenham Manor which was hugely helpful as well as a training day in London with all the placement students and interns. It was clear from the start that the firm has the intention to retain as many interns as possible for grad roles and we were treated accordingly.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • GT retain 90%+ of their interns so I very much hope to obtain a grad role.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns got along very well and socialised a bit and there are opportunities to socialise but as I lived far away from everyone I tended to socialise with friends at home moreso than at work.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • N/A - live at home

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading nightlife is generally good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not a huge amount as we were only there for 6 weeks but I believe there are a fair amount of sports activities etc. for people working here for the long term.

    3/5
