  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Taylor Wessing invested a great deal of time and effort in me during the vacation scheme. I was assigned Corporate Technology in my first week, where I was given a number of projects to work on. In my second week, I was in Tax and Incentives, and many of the fee-earners spent a great deal of time working with me and teaching me about the intricacies of tax law.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Whilst at Taylor Wessing, I had the opportunity to properly understand the culture and values of the firm. I was able to see how the values that Taylor Wessing have are more than tag-lines - they permeate through every aspect of the firm's culture. The hours were relatively normal - starting work each day around 9 and finishing anywhere between 5:30 to 6:30.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • As stated previously, Taylor Wessing's values are evident throughout their culture. Moreover, it is clear that the type of individual the firm recruit are all open and positive people. There is a high emphasis on being approachable and ability to network effectively. There was a real positive feel to the firm and that was evident in the different people I worked with.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Despite having other offers when embarking on the Taylor Wessing vacation scheme, the firm did a fantastic job of selling itself to me. The values and culture are like nothing I had ever seen before, with fee-earners enjoying their work and being passionate about their firm. I have no doubt that, if offered, I would choose Taylor Wessing.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were paid £275 per week for a total of two weeks. This seems normal for any vacation scheme at a law firm. We were also treated to a few networking lunches and three social events where we were given food. I felt as though the amount of money we received was very generous.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were a number of social and networking events that produced opportunities for vacation scheme students to meet other employees of the firm. Firstly, we had two different networking lunches, one with trainees and another with partners. In addition to this, there were a number of social events with the trainees and this provided a perfect environment to further understand the culture and feeling of the firm.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking and social event opportunities were enjoyable and a great opportunity to learn more about the firm. i did not feel as though I was being observed or assessed during the events, which relaxed a number of the vacation scheme students. The first week we went to a ping pong bar and the second week was a cocktail-making session with a sit-down meal afterwards. In addition, we had the opportunity to attend the Taylor Wessing summer party which was particularly enjoyable

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I was made aware of the different activities that employees are involved in outside of work. A number of employees play softball and other games after work once or twice a week. There was also the opportunity to get involved with the Pro-bono clinic that provides the opportunity to really help people. I made the most of this opportunity, and it was one of the highlights of my two weeks.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I have no doubt that anyone considering a career in law should strongly consider working at Taylor Wessing. There is a positive culture and their values are clear for all to see. The firm stresses the importance of individual development within the context of overall excellence in delivering solutions for clients. The scheme is enjoyable and also provides a fantastic opportunity to gain a training contract.
