    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed my placement year at Intel thoroughly, this includes the skills I have obtained at the organisation and the work atmosphere that helped make this a valuable experience. This placement values you as an employee and provides you with a high level of responsibility that helps develop your skillset which can be used in the future back at University and within your career.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued as an employee, interns are not seen as separate from other employees who have been there for years. When dealing with internal and external stakeholders you are not subject to them knowing your an intern, your are solely judged on your knowledge and expertise like an other employee. Support is provided if needed and I was trusted with many high level task.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Intel ensure that a support mechanism is provided all the time. I had regular bi-weekly 1:1s with my Manager and weekly 1:1s with my supervisor to ensure that if I had any worries or questions these were answered fully and any worries were eased. My supervisor was fantastic to provide support on work related questions which needed technical expertise and if I had any general queries regarding my placement in general.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy on a daily basis, however this was a comfortable workload where it enabled myself to test my ability and skillset. Within the first six months of my placement my workload slowly increased as I got more confident with work tasks and therefore got quicker and more efficient at completing tasks. As I got more time free I notified my supervisor and manager and they provided me work more tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that I received a high level of responsibility. This was at a comfortable rate, they did not load this onto me unexpectedly or when I didn't feel confident. Intel want the interns to feel valued and they value the work that we do. The tasks given to me were important to the success of the company, and I feel that the level of responsibility is appropriate for how comfortable the intern feels within the role.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that the skills I have obtained and developed whilst on placement are invaluable to my degree and will help me extensively when returning to University. I feel that more confidence has grown when applying for jobs and I feel more confident regarding my skillset and will help me in the future. In addition I feel like this will help my work life balance and help structure my studies effectively and my focus with my degree.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere within Intel is great! I felt so welcomed and everyone is so friendly to welcome you into the organisation. Intel have a focus on employee satisfaction and rewarding those employees who work hard and get good results. This helps to encourage general moral and make you feel valued. Intel are very supportive with everything including work and personal life and have a focus on family orientation.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I feel that the placement was substantially organised. The first five weeks included a handover period for new interns to be trained effectively, this included on the job training and classroom training for key information and tool access. My role was quite vague at the beginning and took a few months to become well defined. My supervisor provided more tasks for me after each time I felt more comfortable within the role and to help build my experience within the company.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Intel offer numerous training opportunities and support with continual personal development. They value each individual and encourage everyone to develop and voice any training or other opportunities that may benefit your other colleagues. For example: I attended an event in London that was a work interest to me and then presented the information I obtained back to my team.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I would recommend the employment prospects of Intel highly to people that may be interested in joining the organisation. If you want to work for a company that values each employee and strives them to grow as individuals then this is the place to work. Intel are very supportive and offer great prospects to help develop your career for the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, this was great and made my time at Intel very enjoyable. The intern community was substantial and we all lived very close so allowed us to socialise outside of work. In addition, socialising with other work colleagues was also very good, this included team drinks and dinners to help celebrate different events within the team. As a team we did six monthly planning days to grow the team and objectives and organised volunteering events to help have fun as a team.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area was not too costly, this allowed us to socialise without having to worry about money too much. Obviously if you don't watch what you spend then this may be an issue, but if you are sensible with your spending then you can have a great time. I would recommend speaking to the people in the local area who you work with to understand the best area to live and socialise. They know the best tricks1

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty good, however I feel that this was solely because of the intern community. The nightlife is fine and fun but the sole reason I would have a great time was the people i was with. There are many bars and pubs in the area that offer a great selection, they are definitely not a lack of places to visit. its just knowing the right gems to visit and you will have a great.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes the area offers many different opportunities for a wide range of preferences. These are suitable for all people and are great to get involved in with your friends and work colleagues. Intel provide great detail into the different options to get involved in and there are different communities to join. In addition they offer 'ISSC' which is the sports and social club that offers discounted activities to buy tickets for and join.
