    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement as Customer Marketing intern at Warner Bros, the entire year far exceeded any expectations I had prior to starting. I had the opportunity to work on some really fun and relevant projects including some of my favourite titles like Game of Thrones which was an added bonus! The company is fun and really looks after its employees- I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about doing a placement year.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Working for such a prestigious organisation I never expected to be trusted with the amount of responsibility that I was given which made me feel like an extremely valued member of the team. Warner Bros really looks after their employees and even as an intern I was treated much the same as a full time employee which was something I had not expected prior to my placement. This alone made me feel not only extremely valued but also welcome in the company. Also the fact that there is a large network of interns at Warner Bros each year, means that the company recognises the work that interns do.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager, my team and in fact everyone I worked with throughout my year at Warner Bros was extremely supportive of me and was always there to offer any guidance or support when I needed it. I had weekly 1:1 meetings with my line managers were we would discuss my workload, any problems I was having or things I wasn't sure about. This meant that my manager was always aware of projects I was working on and I felt that I could always go to her with any issues. There was always someone to turn to if you were stuck.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload was pretty steady throughout the year however during extremely busy times for the company as a whole such as the Christmas Period, me and my team were extremely busy. Also the more confident I became in completing my key tasks on a day to day basis, I was given more responsibility from my line manager and from my team which meant my work load increased and kept me busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Having heard from other placement students about their experiences with other companies where they spent the majority of their time making tea or scanning documents. I wasn't expecting to be given much responsibility at all. However, this could not be further from the truth when it came to my year at Warner Bros, after laying out my key daily tasks at the start of the year, I was soon given more responsibility when I became more comfortable in my role. This meant my role and work load were constantly developing throughout the year.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt some key skills during my year at Warner Bros that I believe will stand me in extremely good stead when it comes to applying for jobs in the future and when I'm in the workplace. Working 9-5, having deadlines for projects and having to manage a workload I believe is all good practise for studying for the final year of my degree. Whilst having experience in a corporate environment, knowing how to use email in a professional manner, speaking with customers over the phone, having meetings with colleagues and clients to name a few are all great skills to have to prepare you for life in the workplace after graduating.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere at the Warner Bros office is fun! Even though everyone is extremely busy and sometimes things are a bit manic with people working to tight deadlines etc- there is always lots going on which is exciting and means there is always something to get involved in so you will never be bored. It's a great atmosphere to work in as everyone is always up for a good time even when sometimes, things don't go to plan. Warner Bros is a really happy place to work, there was never a dull day!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well, Warner Bros hires around 60 interns each year which means there is a fully functional intern scheme set up. I was invited to an intern welcome drinks with all the new and previous interns before I started which was a good opportunity to meet everyone before our first day and was a good chance to meet potential housemates etc for the year if you were living away from home. On our first day, all the interns attended a HR induction in the morning and then had a two week handover period with the previous intern in our role. During our first week, there was also a lot welcome activities planned for us. Throughout the year we also were invited to attended workshops and activities to help with our placement.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Very much so! Throughout the year, interns at Warner Bros are invited to mandatory training sessions and skills workshops such as personality and identifying type testing, time management workshops. We also had the opportunity to attend a breakfast session with some of the company's directors- we were able to quiz them on matters such as the decline of the DVD market in a digital world and how the EU referendum would affect the company. This session really stood out as it was particularly interesting and engaging. I also used Excel a lot for my role, so the company paid for me to attend an Excel workshop where I learnt how to use the program for professional use. Interns at Warner Bros are treated much the same as full-time employees in that they are invited to company away days which shows that the company really invests in the interns they hire.

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would absolutely love to go back and work for Warner Bros after I graduate! Despite the fact that company don't offer a graduate employment scheme, Warner Bros do re-hire from their pool of ex-interns as the won't need to provide training and have already got a whole year's worth of experience working for the company behind them. I will definitely look to re-apply for a full time position at Warner Bros after I graduate if there are positions available.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is an amazing social scene at Warner Bros between not only the interns but also with the full time employees. Interns are invited to all social gatherings organised by the company but also plenty of nights out/events and gatherings were organised by the interns themselves throughout the year which meant there was always something to do after work if you wanted to get involved, hang out and socialise with colleagues. This is something I will definitely miss about my placement year!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working in central London meant that socialising after work with colleagues was expensive. However, I was lucky to enough to commute from home (greater London) throughout the year which meant I saved a great deal from not having to pay rent in London which can be very expensive. This meant I was able to spend more on socialising after work with friends and colleagues and didn't have to miss out on this like many of the other interns who simply couldn't afford to because of extortionate rent or because they had excessive commutes into work.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Working in Central London meant that we were never short on options for where to hang out after work- there is always somewhere to go/something to do. If you do your research you can also find some good deals on restaurants or cheaper theatre tickets or even free things to do in London. I was never bored as there was always somewhere we could go for a drink after work or something to do. The tube also makes getting around the different areas of London really easy and cheap!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Being in central London means that there is an abundance of opportunities and activities to get involved with after work. If you do your research you can also find some really good deals on activities such as 2 for 1 offers, deals for restaurants or discounted theatre tickets or even free things to do in London. I was never bored as there was always somewhere we could go for a drink after work or something to do. The tube also makes getting around the different areas of London really easy and cheap!
