The Role
I liked the work space. Together with my manager and mentor, we chose a way to work that suited me, and I achieved great progress under their supervision. There were lots of activities and it was fun to take part in them. I was a little disappointed with the company house.
I feel like I am part of a team. My opinions mattered, and I took part in lots of team meetings, where I learned about ways to coordinate a team. I also presented my work recently and I received valuable feedback, which I will definitely use in my future career
My manager and mentor allowed me to try and do most of my assignments on my own. However, every time I seemed to hit a dead end, they were there to help me. I always felt that they will help me whenever I needed, and I wasn't scared of asking them.
I always had a plan on what to do in the respective day. I can say that I might have too ambitious plans, so I ended up always having something to do, which is not such a bad thing. I accommodated with working 8 hours a day (with some breaks) and I am happy with how the internship went.
I was in charge of creating my own product. I was able to take decisions regarding the design, the implementation and many other things. However, since my product were to be used by the team in the future, I had to consider how they wanted it to look like and work.
I learned so many things in this summer. I feel like I can start projects on my own. It was a good change from the theoretical university courses, where despite learning about things, you don't have the chance to actually implement them. I think this was a great opportunity in my career
The Company
People were very relaxed, despite having a project with a set deadline. Lots of jokes, puns, and, in general a very nice environment to work in. I never felt I was going to a workplace, like it was a responsibility and that I had to do it. I enjoyed working here and I wouldn't mind for my internship to continue
I had a project to do in my ten weeks here. There wasn't a clear deadline other than my internship ending. It allowed me to figure out my own schedule and try to finish everything as fast as I could. I was done pretty early and then they gave me some other stuff to do, very small chunks of work since they were upping the difficulty. I feel that it was a very well-organized internship
I had an entire week of training. I learned new programming languages, more about how the company products work and more about website creation. My manager pointed me to where I should find information and was always eager to help by explaining what I had doubts on

At this point it is unclear whether I will get the same role next year within the organization. The choices will be made somewhere after the summer is finished. However, there are many interns that are here for a second time, and my manager told me he will do all he can in order to offer me a place next year too
The Culture
Yes, we always go at intern lunches and intern drinks on evenings. I met a lot of people who share my interests, and they are fun to talk to. The upcoming events, like escape rooms and cinema trips, make me feel a little sorry I won't be here to participate.
Enfield is not one of the cheapest places on earth. Coming from Romania, where there are different costs of living, I found everything to be very expensive. However, the company offered me a house which was very cheap in relation to other living places in Enfield, and the salary I got was more than enough to socialize and not worry about money
There was not much of a nightlife in Enfield. However, we compensated by having drinks with all the interns in some common places. I am not a big fan of clubbing anyway and I like not to worry when I go to bed whether outside will be too much noise.
Metaswitch has lots and lots of clubs and societies. I tried roleplaying games (which I didn't enjoy at all), but I absolutely loved board games and football. I also found a pool table at a pub which is close to where I love, and I often played with my housemates
