    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • The placement year was overall very enjoyable for myself. Being based within a team environment is advantageous as it means that you will always have support and advise.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Right from the word go, my team made me feel extremely welcome and valued they helped me to find my feet and learn how the company works. Everyone treats you like a colleague and not a student. The work you do for your colleagues is always greatly appreciated and they make you very aware of that.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • I was constantly receiving guidance by my manager, being asked if there was anything I wanted to ensure I was exposed to before returning to university. Meetings would be held weekly to discuss my work, how to prioritize and what the next steps were for my development.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • There was never an occasion where there was nothing to be done. The work load can be quite high with but if I was ever struggling my manager would help me prioritize and offer support to reduce my workload. From being very busy on a daily basis, I can definitely say that this has helped further my development in all areas.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • As a placement student, you are given a lot of responsibility - but with the full support of your manager. This will enable you to make your own decisions and work by yourself.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • I can definitely say that the skills I have developed over my placement year will be transferable to most situations in my final year and potential graduate jobs.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • The atmosphere in the office was good as everyone in the office are like family. However, there will be times with a large workload and occasional situations where situations have occurred calling for a more serious environment.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • In my experienced, it was structured right from the beginning and my manager always had projects for me and tasks that would further my knowledge and skills within HR. UK HR were always there for support with two sessions being ran throughout the year to meet with all of the students in the UK to reflect and discuss.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • I have been given so much through my placement year with Faurecia, employees from all areas of the business were always happy to assist me with anything such as support with my work, shadowing or even from the responsibility I have been given during my year.

    • Subsidised/Company Gym

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    • Extremely, the company don't just want to invest in you during your placement year and then let you go. They are investing in you for the managers of the future. There are two possible schemes to enter back into the organization once I have completed my degree. The VIE scheme which is another placement abroad for 1-2 years or a Graduate Scheme within the UK.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • There is contact within the students who are on placement at the same site.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • It can be an expensive area to live in in terms of rent but there are always other options such as house sharing. There is a social environment within Lichfield but not necessary as lively as the city's where you are at University.

    • There are a few bars but nothing major.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • If anything was ever taking place, company wise or team wise there would always be an invite.
