The Role
As I'm approaching the end of my internship, I can safely say that I thoroughly enjoyed my time here as a full time employee.
Everyone in my department, and the majority of people I dealt with across the business, helped out whatever way they could and definitely made you feel welcome, and part of the team.
When needed, the guidance and support was readily available, not just from management/supervisors, but from all of my colleagues.
At the beginning of my internship, the amount of work tasked to me was minimal. But as I learnt a bit more and more customer contracts were secured, the workload picked up drastically. It is does get a little much at times, but you have to learn how to deal with it effectively and appropriately.
In my job role in particular (Purchasing) you get given real tasks, with real consequences. You're not there as a dogs body, you have a genuine role, and you have a true impact within the organization.
Working at Siemens for a year has made me much more confident, I now have the ability to talk to anyone, about anything. Which I believe will help me in not only my studies in my final year. But will be of massive benefit throughout the rest of my life.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office building was good, we all work very hard and get what we need to be done, completed. But at the same time manage to socialize and have a laugh, which makes going to work so much easier!
It did take a while for me to get up and running with my own equipment, but that's what it is like all over Siemens as an organization, its just the way it is!
I went on numerous training courses, which were all free of charge.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
There is a graduate scheme available here at Siemens, and it is not uncommon for interns to return after their final year. It really is a great company to work for and I would definitely re-apply.
The Culture
Some of the training days I attended were specifically for Siemens interns, so you did get to meet a lot of people along the way, and as a result a social scene was created, it all depends on what you make of it really!
I work in Siemens Lincoln at the Main Works, so I was only a short walk away so I had no costs for a car. All I had to pay for was my food and rent effectively. Bars and restaurants are fairly cheap, nothing out of the ordinary though.
I actually go to University in Lincoln so im fairly used to the nightlife here, I think its good for a small city, its nothing like Manchester or Birmingham obviously, but its fairly cheap and always busy.
I got involved with football after work with some of the guys over at Teal park and people here at Main Works, but other than that not much else really. But again, its down to you I suppose.
