    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed my time with Intel, with 45 Interns on site we had great support, training and social life!! With Intel your placement is what you make of it, managers and supervisors are happy to support you with anything you would like to try and ensure you get the most out of your year.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Extremely Valued! The team made me feel like a full time employee, they allowed me own and run my own projects - coming to me for questions and feedback.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a great support team, with weekly 1:1's with my manager, supervisor, direct reporting manager and the Central Marketing Team. This allowed me to gain experience through all the different roles, and get a varied opinion on my work,

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of my role in Events Marketing, the daily work load was extremely variable! I was busy the majority of the time, in the quiet periods I was encouraged and able to work with different departments and roles which was great experience! Working and owning projects with other teams :)

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Literally running the show! My team treated me as a full time member, carrying the same responsibility and work load.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Whilst working with Intel, I have managed to greatly improve my skills. I have gained a real life, real working experience with insight into not only my own role but others as well. Intel's New employee training allows you to gain full context of the industry Intel is working within, the products, the business etc. which greatly benefited me. It was nice to have a full understanding of the impact I was making on the business. I have learnt so many new skills, whilst developing those I already had.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Always a great atmosphere! Everyone at Intel is so social and lovely to speak to, I don't have a bad word to share. The Social and Sports committee are great at organising events to bring employees together, the open and welcome canteen allows you to chat and meet with new people. Intel's open desk policy is also great, you do not feel a hierarchy.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised from start to finish - my team under went a number of transitioning companies, reorganisations and retirements. But I never felt out of place or unwanted, the team always made sure I had the support I needed. With regards my requirements for university, HR and my team were always willing to help and quick to action my needs.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training and development I participated in was fantastic, my team encouraged me to undertake onsite training in various fields - from Sales Storytelling to Presentation work. They funded me to move to Germany's Intel office for 7 weeks, learning new skills onsite with my manager and participating in new projects. Whenever an opportunity arose, my team would allow me to pursue it.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Graduate Roles within Intel are directed through Customer Business Analyst, generally they take on a lot of graduates from the placements. But getting a graduate role outside of this department is fairly difficult... anything within Marketing being especially difficult. My team is very supportive to help me find a job, but I am not hugely optimistic about returning to Intel - Though i would love to.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With a group 45 interns, from the very start we were encouraged to socialise and live together. The interns run various committees, organised weekends away and participated in Corporate Games. Majority of the Interns work very closely, and all live around the area. Though Swindon isn't great, having such a tight knit group we definitely made the most of it, creating a great support system! We had the best year!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area was fairly cheap to live in, with nice large housing being much cheaper than any student accommodation I stayed at! Whilst on my placement I was able to save a fair amount of money, without having to watch too closely. Swindon is not the greatest place for social life, but my fellow interns and the job at Intel definitely allowed me to make the most of it!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Compared to my home town North Wales, Swindon was okay! It had a few clubs at least! Honestly it is not the best night out, but its the people - not the place that make a night good. Being so close to London, Bristol, Bath and Oxford was a huge benefit - many of us went for nights out or weekend there.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes loads! The sports and social group was great, with membership they would update the site with new events, concerts and sports we could take part in in the area, for a discounted price. This was a great way to meet other people within Intel, network and socialise! There is always something going on.
