The Role
Overall a very enjoyable year, my team were very friendly and I got on with them well. The role had plenty of aspects to it so never left bored, plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in also throughout the year.
Team members and employees were always very thankful whenever I solved their problem
Weekly 1-2-1 sessions with supervisor to check everything is going ok, very easy to contact supervisor otherwise.
Depending on the day of the week, Mondays always pretty busy catching up from the weekend and Friday afternoons fairly quiet.
A lot, responsible for being the contact point for 12,000 employees in UK and Ireland with regards to mobile telephony. Responsible for hosting and chairing weekly meetings with external service provider as well as running monthly comms calls with the wider department.
Managed to put a few theoretical skills learnt during first two years of studies into practice. A very good networking opportunity all throughout the year to get your name out there.
The Company
Most of the team worked from home, only came into the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays – on those days the office was lively however very quiet the rest of the week. This seemed common across other teams in the location, not in the larger locations e.g London/Hursley
Well organised, the Foundation team ran various events throughout the year including a Careers Fair and various employability modules.
Plenty of online courses on offer to understand more about IBM and in terms of personal development e.g. project management
Flexi Time
Working from home
Like to hire interns and have a separate application process, however as with any large company there is going to be a lot of competition for all roles and many abroad.
The Culture
Yes – lots of other interns on site.
Reasonably expensive, however personally I very much liked Portsmouth as a city. Plenty of sports clubs to get involved with
Nothing specifically around the office, however plenty of bars and restaurants throughout the town center, around a 15 min drive from the office.
