    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Warner Bros. It's been a brilliant opportunity to have a step up into full time work. Though at Warner Bros you are given real responsibility and an important role within a world renowned company. If you are looking for a chance to gain a practical application of the competencies that you are taught at university, and have a bloody good time doing it, then Warner is for you.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues welcome me into the team as if I'd been working there all my life. In the beginning they were extremely helpful with any questions that I might have had and aiding me in my work. However, they weren't shy to give me a true opportunity to show my potential by giving me challenging work that tested my workplace abilities. It was this that truly made me feel valued, as it showed that they trusted in me to get it done and to a deadline.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager has been the most supportive manager I have ever had. We have regular catch ups, where she not only makes sure that I am happy at work, but also in my personal life. If I have any problems at work then she works through it with me so that it is sorted out as best as possible, even if it was my fault. I have never been made to feel persecuted or guilty for getting anything wrong.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am regularly kept busy at work. Throughout the year there have been very few days where I am sat twiddling my thumbs, and if I am, then someone in the wider team usually has something I can crack on with, whether that is a research task, or something more serious. There is never any harm in asking for more work. Having said that, I have never had to stay late at work, and have never felt that I am drowning. People are quick to spot if you are struggling, and are happy to share the load.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given real responsibility at work, to the extent that there are very visible consequences to the missing of deadlines or neglecting to do a piece of work. At the same time, a placement student would never be put in a decision making process where the responsibility remains solely with them.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained a wide variety of skills throughout my time on placement. This include skills exclusive to Warner Bros, including their systems and skills that are transferable through any way that I apply myself. Throughout the year, you will attend different training sessions that will require you to look internally, and towards self improvement, these will include, but are not limited to, communication, presenting, teamwork and negotiation. All of which will help me at university and beyond, especially if group work or presenting is required.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I would describe my team as outgoing, people who are always up for a laugh. However, they can be serious when the situation requires it. Throughout the average day you will have a good laugh and be at ease, almost as if you weren't at work. There is also a sonos music player which plays music throughout the office, and although that sounds a bit irrelevant, you really appreciate having music throughout the day, especially as it gives people a chance to show off their personalities a bit.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Warner Bros. have clearly put a lot of effort into the work placement programme. This shows by the number of interns that they employ, and the real influence that they have on the business. They have invested in a variety of training programmes in order to develop people who often go on to become a permanent part of the company after university. There is even an internship in learning and development, where the intern is responsible for ensuring that the learning needs of the placement students are met.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As previously mentioned, Warner Bros. takes the training of it's interns very seriously. Along with the training programmes there are three PPRs throughout the year, to ensure that all of your personal needs are being met, and that you are happy in your working environment. Something that is very important to personal development. There are roughly 5 training programmes, which target many different aspects of your working abilities.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although there is no graduate job offered at the end of the placement, most interns will be put into a pool where you will see Time Warner jobs come up quite frequently. Throughout your daily working life you will come into contact with a lot of staff who were previously interns. Additionally, almost 1 in 5 interns are eventually hired. And if you aren't, then you are well prepared for roles outside of the company.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely. In my year there was almost an opportunity to go out every week. This only improved nearer christmas as there were more opportunities to go to work drinks. You will find that the people you meet this year will become your best friends. However at the same time, you can go to as much or as little as you want. As being in London everyone appreciates that it isn't cheap, and going out all the time can be expensive. But the longer you are here for, the better and cheaper nights out you will find.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not cheap, but it is London after all, so you get what you expect. Thankfully Warner Bros pay very competitively, so if you are smart with your money then you will be able to live quite comfortably. On top of this you will get half of your usual student finance untaxed, so that's a nice little spender on top.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, it's London. So the nightlife was great.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I'm repeating myself here really. I guess to add on top of what I have already mentioned, there are opportunities to join the Warner football team which plays every so often. I'd definitely take advantage of these opportunities, as it is a great way to make friends with people who aren't necessarily people that you would normally work with, or socialise with.
