    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • This insight program is a great opportunity to learn about the company Schlumberger. Everything is organised perfectly. Each presentation gave you a pretty good understanding about one aspect of the company. Especially with the drilling case study on the last day, it provided me with a good insight in a short time about what it is like to work in this company in the future. Plus, the hotel and the good were really nice.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It is a good insight program to learn about the company Schlumberger. But to be honest, as a software engineer, I did not feel that I have learnt much during this insight. The drilling case study on the last day is pretty good overall, but as a software engineer, it felt like you couldn't contribute much to the group because you simply couldn't understanding any mechanical engineering or electrical engineering.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • All staffs were really friendly and provided as much help as they could. Everyone you talked to were all willing to share their experience at Schlumberger with you. We had two dinners with staffs and senior engineers from Schlumberger and personally, I felt like they have provided me with some guidance about my future career path.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This insight program was more like an information providing session rather than a program to provide you essential skills about the job. So do not expect to learn much knowledge assisted with your degree, just use this insight program as a guidance to your career path will be a good choice. To some extent, it also provided you with a guidance about what optional courses you should study in the third year to help you with the career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight is very well structured and put all essential information you need to know within two and half days. It might feel a bit rush as you need to wake up at 7 in the morning, everyone took the taxi to the campus and the program starts at 8.30 approximately. But you can get everything you need to know in two days and have some idea about your future career path. So it is definitely worth it.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere is pretty good. All staffs are friendly and helpful, and all candidates who participate with the insight were very easy to go with. All dinners were informal and the dress code in the office is smart cause, so everything felt pretty relaxing. It was good to have two days off at Gloucestershire and just relax a bit.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This insight program does not really provide you with any personal training and development, but it was said during the presentation that, if you apply for the long term internship or graduation job, you will get three month training at Paris if I remember correctly and learn everything about drilling. And from all presentations we heard, people do not always quit at Schlumberger because you get the mobility to shift jobs within the company and all trainings are still provided.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight program gave a pretty idea about what it is like to work in the company in the future. Especially with the drilling case study, even through it is a three hour group study, it is like an overall about what it is like to work about drilling in the future. Also with all these training information provided, you can easily decide if you want an internship or a graduation job at Schlumberger after two days.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • When you ask every staff about what they like about Schlumberger, there are two key things. First, multicultural environment, people who work there are from all over the world and you are always feeling like included in the family. Second, the mobility within the company - you can move from engineer to HR without changing the company you work with; and you can apply for senior position if you think you are qualified rather than having to wait for certain years. So the company culture was well presented in the insight.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • All essential information was provided to help with your decision. Although as a software engineer, how you can contribute to the company is still not so clear in the insight program. Some staffs told me there is much bigger Schlumberger campus around the world which focuses only on software, but the detailed presentation is missing in this insight program.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • All train tickets and taxi fares were reimbursed. Also, because of inaccurate information about the leaving time, some people booked ticket at some later time, and the company agreed that they could still buy an earlier ticket and both tickets could be reimbursed, which was pretty good. Although you need to post all receipts back to them which costs some time after being back home.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • All presentations, buffet lunch time and dinner time provided with the opportunities to meet and talk to other employees of the company and learnt more about this company, and even got guidance about your career path from them.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • All two days have informal dinner with employees of the company, with good food and friendly conversations.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • One or two presentations talked about activities that the company gets for employees during weekends. It is like societies in the university which employees can get involved and continue with their interests outside of work.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I will recommend this insight program to my friends from mechanical engineering or electrical engineering, but maybe not friends from math or computer science, if not more software aspect is going to include in this insight program. Overall, it is a good program to learn about the company Schlumberger and a good chance to think about your future career path.
