    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • L'Oreal is a fun, fast paced and exciting company to work for. The training, and responsibility on the job is immense and I really have learnt a lot. There is a large intake of interns which means you are not alone and it is also very social. Everyone is very friendly, young and happy to help. I would really reccomend it - Especially for a marketing internship

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My whole team really supported me from day one. They helped with initial requests and as I grew into my role helped me developed areas in more depth. Throughout the year I was given more important projects with alot of responability which I felt was very value and often handed in to General Managers.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Large support from both my manager, and the higher levels of management within my team. Not only did they support me with projects providing tips and advice but also on skills. For instance they helped with presenting skill as I presented to higher management every month. And near the end of the placement they have helped with Careers advice for a future at L'Oreal.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I must admit that I have been kept busy, but this means there has never been a dull moment. I am with an up and coming fast paced brand which means we are constantly evolving and so is my role. This has been great as I have been integral member to the team and been able to experience so many different things. As the brand expanded I have also acted as a more long term member with a larger knowledge of the brand. So yes, I have been kept very busy but its been great!!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Being on a smaller brand, I have been given a lot of responsibility. Of course only through progression of completing tasks efficiently and at a good quality. I have been able to present marketing plans and analysis to senior management and they have helped me put in place activity's, events and campaigns that I would like to do.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I do a degree in Science, so although some may say this isnt related, I will take a lot of of this year for final year. Not only will It help with more of a routine and the early mornings, but also with a motivation and a reason for achieving high grades. Alongside this I have developed a lot of skill in power-point and excel which will be extremely useful in research projects and presenting this back to my professors.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • L'Oreal is young, social, fun, fast paced and full of a lot of motivation young professionals. This provides an extremely exciting work place. Coffee breaks are encouraged for networking within teams so that you share best practices between brands. Many intern and team socials have been help and the general vibe is very friendly but motivated.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Process was fairly integral but speedy. With very clear stages for each stage of the interview. Before we arrived we had a rounders day social which meant we got to meet with new interns, this was a great ice breaker. In our first week we had many training's etc which also meant we got to meet other interns which was great. Through out the year training and social continued which helped maintain our skills.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a fair amount of training on the job, but we still did have training in outlook and work place skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing but competitive. The MT Scheme is 3 rotations with different brands meaning you gain a lot of experience all in one year. This being said it is highly competitive; you must gain a wide range of experience, network well and present your findings during your placement to stand in good stead for gaining a spot.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good social scene. There are a lot of interns. Are the start of the year, you vote in a head, a social sec, a sports sec and a newsletter sec, these then act as the committee. The social sec organised a lot of free or cheap social events every month with a lot of variety. It was a great way to meet different people within L'Oreal and in London.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive but worth. Dont expect to save money this year if you plan to rent accomodation in london. You will survive but not save. HOWEVER, I cant explain how worth it is. London is such a great location to be in with so many new and fun things happening every week. Also, dont forget to be savvy with deal websites, student discounts and lots of free events and sports going on around london.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's london, so very fun busy and always something going on. Dont forget to try and get group deals!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots, there is a football and volley ball team which go on a tour every year! Also, the intern sports sec can organise a netball or other sports group. We event played rounders and went trampolining one week! You can also volunteer. I spent a week volunteering a butlins on the south coast making lip glosses for children to promote l'oreal with science. It was very rewarding and a fun way to spend the weekend!
