Undergraduate Process Engineer Review

Enjoyed would be an understatement. My time with the company come at a time of excitement at JLR, a real feel good factor wherever I was. My team had a real interest in developing me , to a point where I can perform in a job role, before graduation. I'd very much like to return to JLR after my studies.

Was part of a really supportive, almost family like team, never far from a laugh or a chat in the office. My seniors always kept me involved in the teams affairs and set aside large portions of my placement for either on the job or formalised training. Both management and seniors have consistently put a focus on preparing me for a graduate role (if possible).

Never in my time here have i been turned away when I've required assistance from any of my management team, or for that matter anyone at the EMC. The plant emphasises a core set of values, where there is no blame and everyone is a big family working towards a common list of goals.

The first half of my placement could have been considered slow, but I guess this must be expected for my first exposure into industry. Consisted of mainly training, shadowing and more admin focused tasks. Did however provide a solid groundwork, and after Christmas I found myself working alongside my fellow engineers on some really interesting work streams.

Same as previous, started off with minimal due to the risk factor involved with affecting such a large scale production facility. After the mid way point, I began to work in a more formalised job role, being delegated complex tasks alongside other teams either on my own or alongside another engineer.

Obviously my technical understanding of manufacturing and product creation (predominately engine focued) has developed considerably. As a person though is where I feel ive changed the most. My approach to tasks and work is completely different and I feel I have matured in how I approach both people and tasks.

Clean, open and modern. Really friendly atmosphere, where people who you've never met would still say morning. Facilities were good and i never had to struggle to find a desk (so I've heard happens elsewhere) as i had my own, alongside storage and personal landline. Good amount of banter in the mornings too!

From the HR department, I would actually say very poor once the placement commensed, due to not being on one of the the 'main' sites such as whitley or gaydon. My time and success on placement goes down more so to my senior engineer and manager, who took it upon themselves to train and use me to the best of my potential, developing a young, determined engineer with plenty of industry experience along the way.

Massive. Company graduate team assigned courses at the beginning of the year which were external and costly. focused around behaviours and project management. My team sent me on numerous supplier and industry related courses, investing thousands in me. There was never a feeling of 'oh he's only here for a year' , I was treated like everyone else.

Very appealing! Been recommended for future employment but will not find out until later on in the year. Company operates a final evaluation scheme ,where if succesful you are put forward for a graduate role without further interview.

Went out regularly with my team, to various nights out (meals,drinks,bowling etc..) In terms of fellow placement students, I was based in Wolverhampton, with three of us there, there wasn't much a social scene to be had. Did make two very good friend for life mind :)

I'm local to the area so never had to re-locate. generally cheap in the west midlands

Birmingham can be a cracking night out!

From a company point of view no, but this may be due to the age of the site i worked at. Colleagues regularly ran 5-a-side meet ups and leagues at the local football centre. Always charitable events to get involved to also, included a fun day for all employees to bring there families.
