The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year here. It was extremely challenging but everyone was very supportive.
I felt very valued, often being tasked with very senior and innovative projects that were a first for the brand/company.
Perhaps I was a one off, but I did work very independently and often struggled with the support of management. If anything I have learned how to handle different types of managers- a valuable skill. Generally, over average.
Extremely busy- get ready to work your butt off!
I was given so much responsibility- I didn't get coffee once! I was speaking to people from head office in New York and all the local markets regularly, presenting in from off 350+ people, working on projects that were really huge- I had a great time!
I wouldn't say that anything really in my degree helped me in the placement year but then again, I study business and management and now work in Visual merchandising. I think the soft skills will be most of the value I've gained from my placement year and it will really help me next year. (Time Management, prioritizing, how to deal with difficult colleagues etc.)
The Company
Positive, everyone is very busy but will always make time for you if you need it.
Very well organised, support always there if you needed it. Facebook page there just in case and Hannah is really great with anything you need.
I ended up teaching myself Photoshop and InDesign in my free time as there was nothing on offer but it was expected of me. Would be good for HR to invest in more Intern training in this area. Then again, there was plenty of training offered in other areas eg CV, Excel.

TBC- just going through the grad scheme process!
The Culture
Yes, running club, socials, meetings with other interns set up but it was also important to sort this out yourself.
It is normal for London prices but then again London is very expensive! Luckily some socials had free booze/entry all night but some were poor. (Eg I don't know why we chose mahiki as the L'Oreal club as it is useless in every way!)
Not crazy, hammersmith has a few good pubs more than anything but central is so close this isn't a real issue. Drinks in the summer by the river is lovely too!
Yes lots, team socials, sports teams (for the international L'Oreal Volleyball and football tournament).
