The Role
I did enjoy my placement the majority of the time with the high levels of responsibility and a constant flow of work. The only part that made that difficult was the lack of time to do the work as well as you wanted to due to tight and urgent deadlines. The company is super fast paced.
It really depends on your team but I definitely felt valued by my manager and the other manager on my team. However with levels above that you don't feel as valued. Due to the corporate hierarchy, more senior people won't see what you are doing so might assume you're not doing as valuable work as you actually are.
I have had two managers over my year and have felt very supported by both of them.
Very busy. L'Oreal is crazy and very fast paced. If you like that and are a challenge seeker it is perfect for you. If you prefer a relaxed environment, maybe not.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement which was motivating but daunting. However I much prefer to have responsibility than to not.
I really think I will take a lot of skills forward with me into both my final year of study and my future career. It has been a reality check in terms of work, and has motivated me to do great in my third year at University. I have a much better attitude to work now.
The Company
Overall, there was a positive atmosphere. Everyone is really funny and friendly and there is a real team spirit! However when there are large meetings people tend to get very stressed which can bring everyone down. This is probably the same at most companies but it is definitely something that I have noticed whilst working here.
The organisation and set up of the internship was done well. There are generally handover periods between the old intern and the new (although I wasn't lucky enough to get this being the first intern my team had had!) and a review process that ensured you knew how well you were doing and if you were on track for being recommended to be on the graduate scheme. However I do think HR should check in more.
I have had a lot of training but more from a brand specific level rather than an overall business level. At the end of the day the majority of graduates that they hire come from the internship, so they do have you here with the intention of training you to be successful at L'Oreal in your future.

I think they are. The grad scheme isn't that appealing to me but that's personal preference. However an operational role in the future here does appeal due to the fast-paced and challenging work. With regards to benefits I do think they get better as you move up in the organisation, which I can imagine is similar at most other companies.
The Culture
The L'Oreal interns and grads have a committee which include a President, Social Secretary, Sports Secretary, Welfare Secretary and two Newsletter Secretaries. There are lots of social events organised by the interns but also three organised by HR throughout the year. Due to the amount of interns in the office there is plenty of time for socialising.
Living in London was tough on the budget, but with the L'Oreal socials we managed to get a lot for free! The salary also makes it manageable. It's not necessarily been easy but it's been manageable. Plus, the social scene in London is so good that you don't mind spending a little bit extra as you usually have a better night for it. There's never not something to do.
Very good! Lots of clubs in London. You also meet a lot of promoters which get you in to clubs for free and give you free drinks which is good for saving money. Having a social secretary is good for that because they form connections with the club marketing managers and always get good deals for work nights out at really good clubs, restaurants and bars.
Yes because it's London! There's always something to do somewhere and people at work are always keen to socialise. Even if it's just going to the pub on the Friday, the people at L'Oreal are very social so there's always someone doing something which is nice to know. The only bad thing is that people generally work late and long hours so people sometimes just want to go home.
