    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement at Intel was enjoyable, as there are a large number of interns doing a similar placement it meant there was a good social life. Intel also has a lot of other perks such as quarterly and annual bonuses, large site wide events and empowers interns with real responsibility.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt highly valued by my colleagues. You are treated no differently to a full time employee. The responsibility you are given can be in many different areas and not restricted to just your job role. As an intern you are also given opportunities to shadow other areas of the business to develop your knowledge.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As an intern at Intel you have not only your manager but also someone within your team who is your 'on the job coach' this link is valuable as you can often ask informal/general questions which you may not ask your manager. You will have meetings with your manager at least every 2 weeks.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In sales the job is a lot more task based so normally quite busy but at times in the lead up to a major event it can be very busy. The team are understanding of this and wouldn't expect you to be working long hours. There are always opportunities to ask for more tasks if you aren't busy enough.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In the sales teams at Intel you are given a lot of responsibility. This can be anything from managing large budgets to organising events, the team activity encourage you to get involved in many areas and take on real responsibility. This was one of my favorite parts of the internship as I felt of value to the business as a result of the responsibility given to me.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • At the start of my internship I set out some skills and areas I would like to develop. Working with members of my team I have been able to improve these with their guidance. They have actively promoted myself developing these skills and helped me with any opportunities that came my way. Intel has several training courses that all interns are welcome to participate in.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very good. There are a lot of site wide events. There is also regular sports, there is football on Monday evenings and Friday lunch times and Netball for the interns on a Tuesday evening. There is also a site wide committee that organize charity competitions and fundraisers.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was well organized. Having the link of the on the job coach means your goals and targets can be clearly stated before the start of the year. The hiring process was also fairly straight forward. The graduate opportunities are also quite well communicated throughout the year including the focal process that has to be completed.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company heavily invests in you, they provide a lot of training at the beginning of the internship and then also future opportunities throughout the year. They could promote more the free trainings that happen onsite, there has only been one since January that has been sent to us as a group.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Intel as a company is very appealing due to the perks of working for the company and the fact that they value and reward their employees. As an intern however the majority of the opportunities are within operations, as this is an area i haven't worked in before I would have to access my options before deciding if this is a career path I'd like to take.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. Although Swindon isn't the most social area in the world as there are so many interns working at Intel and also graduates, the social life is OK. There are plenty of nights out, especially through the handover period where both the new and old interns are at Intel, and then there are also sports such as football, tennis, Trampolining and netball that take place.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living is cheap, the rent in Swindon is a lot less than most university cities/towns. Swindon is very limited in terms of socializing, there is one club, there are some nice areas including Old Town, Outlet center, Lydiard Park and Coate Water. Overall the socializing is entirely dependent on how active the interns are.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is limited to just one club in Old Town. In terms of bars there are a few nicer bars in Old town, some with beer gardens. Reading, Oxford, Bristol, Bath and London are all close however so plenty of opportunity to go out elsewhere. Bristol in particular is only 40minutes away.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there was a wide variety of opportunities from Intern committees to sports. Intel also heavily promotes volunteering, so there are a lot of opportunities to take part and even organize volunteering while at Intel. There are several intern committees: Sports & Social, Publishing and Charity for which you can run for all as an intern.
