    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • There are various projects I have been able to get involved with across the department and wider business. I was given ownership and responsibility throughout my time on placement and supported when looking to pursue further opportunities.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • VWFS does truly feel like one big family. My colleagues made me feel welcome and settled from the very start of my placement. When you walk into the building, the company's values are everywhere and it makes you realise how important the company culture is for everyone within the business.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has been very supportive throughout my placement. Enabling me to get involved with lots of different opportunities and projects. I have been able to attend many courses which has made a big impact on my personal development during my year on placement.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very, Not one day has been the same which I have thoroughly enjoyed! As someone who likes to be busy, I have been given lots of tasks to get involved with alongside my day-to-day role, and so there has never been a quiet moment. I have definitely been able to maintain a work/life balance, but have had to be flexible on occasions staying late to ensure the work will be completed in time.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been able to take ownership of various projects and my day-to-day role. For example, I have been the first point of contact for most of our agencies which is a great responsibility and has meant I have been able to build strong relationships. The company are very good at ensuring that you set challenges during your placement to aid in development, and responsibility over tasks is something that has been on-going throughout the year.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There are lots of training course offered to employees, and as Undergraduates, we have also had full access to this too. I have been on lots of courses such as time management, Excel Level 1 & 2 and 'My Career'. You are supported throughout the year to attend courses that will not only develop the skills for your role, but for when you return to University and beyond.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone is really friendly and welcoming. There is a very social atmosphere and the team are always looking for things to do such as curry nights, walks at lunch or cinema trips.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As there had been a few undergraduates before me, my placement was set up well and there were lots of projects organised for me to get involved with. There could be improvements on how the programme is supported as a whole, with regular updates to find out how we are getting on and if there is anything that could be improved whilst we are still here - but I am aware this is something the business are putting in place for next years' cohort.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • If there was a course I was looking to attend or any opportunities I wanted to get involved with for my development, the company supported and invested in me. There has not been a time where I have been turned down for asking to attend a course or get involved with a new project. The business have been very good at supporting me throughout the year.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Car

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is not a graduate scheme at the company so there is no opportunity to apply onto this kind of programme after University. However, there are many people who now work in the business in permanent roles that have previously been on the Undergraduate Scheme.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • At the start of placement, we went out quite a bit on weekends. The nightlife is not great in Milton Keynes but we made the most of it! A few of us joined the company's netball team and we had weekly matches playing in the local league. This was a good opportunity to meet different people from around the business. As mentioned before, our team has organised a few curry nights, cinema trips and lunch walks too.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • For me, the housing costs are much lower than where I am at University (In Bristol), but I know for some of the other Undergraduates, they thought it was more expensive. It is manageable with our salary. Going out is more expensive than at University but again, we all managed it with our salaries.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlight is not great in Milton Keynes, but it is what you make of it! There are lots of bars and places go for cocktails, but the clubbing scene is limited - but London is only 30 minutes on the train!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I joined the company netball team and CSR team, volunteering at various charity events in the local community. The company organises Ascot days and trips abroad that you can get involved with (the most recent trip was to Amsterdam).
