About You
I absolutely enjoyed the Pathfinder programme it was well structured and firm and its people were both friendly and accommodating.
Since it was a two-day insight as opposed to the standard open day, the programme felt that we as students are more valued. It truly felt that we were taking a step in building our path to a future trainee solicitor at Linklaters.
From the application/interview advice to a session in building our own personal brand, the guidance and support throughout the programme was very much welcomed. As a non-law student, I appreciated this a lot.
Since it was just an insight programme we were not able to build solid professional skills to assist us in our degrees. But, Pathfinder gave us the opportunity to explore and keep us motivated because we now know what we are working towards on our degrees.
The Company
A+ on the structure of the insight. Linklaters managed to squeeze all aspects of the firm into two days including work-shadowing, not one but two trainees in different practice areas. In addition, we had an interactive commercial awareness workshop. The structure made the programme successful in exploring the work that Linklaters does as well as its culture.
The general atmosphere was great. Like any other open day, there was initial awkwardness between attendees but the ice-breaker and evening social got us to interact in a slightly less formal way which really built a team spirit.
The insight really helped me understand the work of a trainee solicitor, especially during the work-shadowing sessions. However, it would've been more efficient if the Graduate Recruitment team was able to assign the trainees work that they could give their trainees. It would've given an even more realistic view of a full-time role.
The presentation with the partner really helped understand the firm's culture as well as why most Linklaters employees see themselves having a long-term career with the firm.
As a non-law student, Pathfinder was really helpful in helping me decide my career path. The programme showcased different aspects of what it is like to be a commercial lawyer in practice and this was most useful to me.
Everything Else
There was trainee support throughout the entire programme. The trainees were quite accommodating as they knew what it was like to be in our shoes. However, it would have been nice to meet more associates and partners throughout the programme to gain more insight into their roles.
The networking and social events were great. It was more informal and relaxed which helped us to gain a better insight into the firm. Everyone was friendly and patient.
The networking sessions with trainees discussed about other activities employees can get involved with such as sport and pro bono.
I would absolutely recommend this insight to a friend as well as anyone looking to work in commercial law, be it a law or non-law student.
