    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight scheme. I found it very informative and I felt it gave me a real insight into life at the firm. Everyone was extremely helpful and I learned lots of things about the day-to-day life of a trainee. I would definitely recommend it to others.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It was made clear to me that I had done well to achieve a place on the scheme and the graduate recruitment team made a real effort to show they wanted us to benefit from the week. I felt as though everyone there had my best interests at heart and they gave me the best advice they could. All the trainees made me feel very comfortable and valued, which I greatly appreciated.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The graduate recruitment team were very good at keeping us informed on the activities we would be taking part in. I knew they were always there if I needed to ask a question and having a trainee mentor was also extremely useful.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe I developed skills for life on the scheme. The negotiation exercise and mock assessment day allowed me to enhance my interpersonal skills and gave me confidence in my abilities. I also learned valuable networking skills throughout the week.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The scheme was very well-organised, I always knew what I was going to be doing next. I think having the assessment day on the last day was very useful, as I used the knowledge I had gained over the week to answer questions. I enjoyed having talks/tasks in the morning and shadowing in the afternoon.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I looked forward to coming into the building every day. Everyone was extremely welcoming and I got on very well with all those who attended the scheme. The trainees were very friendly and supportive and the more senior lawyers were very happy to answer any questions I had. I felt very comfortable there.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I developed my interpersonal and negotiation skills. I also increased my commercial awareness and knowledge of international law firms. The work shadowing was particularly useful as I had to articulate my questions carefully so as to not unnecessarily interrupt someone, but I felt everyone was happy to answer any questions I had. I learned a lot about the role of a trainee which will be very helpful over the coming years.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I felt the scheme gave me a good insight into what working at the firm would be like. The trainee shadowing was most helpful, as I got to witness the day-to-day life of trainees in different departments. I think that by changing department each day, I got a well-rounded view of life as a trainee.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Many of the talks such as the one concerning the strategy of Hogan Lovells were extremely useful in finding out what the firm really values in its lawyers. Spending a week at the firm gave me a general sense of the company culture which was very important to me.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The scheme was extremely helpful as it allowed me to understand what is expected of a trainee, and how people who work at the firm progress in the firm. I already knew I wanted to work in a large international law firm but this experience consolidated that for me, as I was exposed to the everyday life of those who work in Hogan Lovells.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed adequately for this experience.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities everyday through networking lunches, shadowing, panel sessions and the partners dinner. Every one of these opportunities was extremely valuable and I was able to ask any questions I had and be exposed to many different points of view.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were very valuable and the dinner gave me a chance to bond with those attending the scheme, but also to ask questions to partners working at the firm.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • During the 'Life as a Trainee' workshop we were told about the opportunities open to those who work at Hogan Lovells, ranging from dance lessons to a knitting club. This was useful to know.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this scheme to all those who are interested in experiencing work at an international law firm. It was extremely useful and insightful. I enjoyed every minute of it!
