    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was an enjoyable and stimulating insight into the firm.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I was certainly well-looked after during the insight (breakfast, water etc. was all generously provided). There were a wealth of people on hand to answer any questions we, as a group had, and also to give talks on various relevant areas. When we were sent off to our various seats, the work we were given was of limited importance/value (quite understandably, given issues of confidentially and our lack of knowledge). It did, however, feel that the work went on for too long given its limited use. Generally, everyone was very welcoming and seemed interested in us, and in our futures

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Loads. There were multiple people on hand at all times to help us in any way they could. That ranged from the brilliant HR team to the trainees and other speakers that they arranged for us. Every step of the way was mapped out helpfully and explained; there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions as well. This in no way felt false or over the top.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was little use for my degree - expected given its complete lack of relevance. It was, however, incredibly useful for interview/application processes, as well as for my decision-making in the future. There was an excellent insight into the entire process, from now to applying to time as a trainee and beyond. The insight days were comprehensive in the extreme.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • See above comments; from the meticulous planning of the HR team to the fact that people were constantly on hand to assist in any way they could, the insight was superb. Breakfast being provided and the social on the first evening were icing on the cake (if you'll pardon the pun - we did icing as part of the cooking social...)

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Superb; all members of the scheme were enthusiastic and friendly, which contributed to the already lovely feel of the firm and scheme generally. HR staff made great efforts to enthuse us and to make the scheme interactive, where it might otherwise have been stagnant.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Very much so; all trainees were passionate about their positions and the firm as a whole. Further up the chain, associates and partners retained the same enthusiasm. The career path was straightforwardly laid our for us, and it is certainly an attractive one. The support that the trainees received looked total.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • To a large extent, if not completely. I was given a few pieces of work that were equivalent to the most typical work done by trainees. The atmosphere and logistical facts were laid out well (for example, working hours, meals etc.). However - and this was expected given the limited time of the scheme - I was unable to be sure of the whole role that trainees play within the firm.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Total; the firm made it clear that their culture was crucial to them and all those who work their. All of the employees went to great lengths to elucidate it, and illustrate it with examples. Their friendly, collegiate and collaborative stance was clear to everyone.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was a great step in the right direction. Given my uncertainty beforehand, I was given a much clearer picture of what a career in the profession or at the firm would be like. However, a little more insight into the day-to-day working of the firm would have been useful for me to compare with my alternatives.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Yes - given the generosity of the scheme, and the fact that the work we did was of no use, it made sense that we were not given a salary.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes. It did not quite feel like networking, but there were plenty of chances to talk to and engage with members of the firm of all levels of seniority.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social on the first night was great fun - cooking and cocktail making. There were plenty of drinks and nice food to go around. There were a range of trainees and HR people on hand to chat with or to ask any more questions.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes - the gym and some clubs were explained to us. Also, the restaurant is turned into a bar every Thursday. However, it does seem that the working hours limit the extent to which employees can get involved with (not that this was unexpected.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes definitely. It was a great chance to understand the profession, the firm and how to get into both, which is exactly what I wanted from the scheme. Everyone was friendly and helpful in every way I could imagine.
