    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall the internship was enjoyable and I highly reccomend it, especially for anyone who is more interested in financial services than I am!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues made me feel involved from day one, they were friendly and approachable and whenever I had a question they would help me as soon as they could, which was pretty quick! They gave me a variety of work and were happy to let me have a go at anything, guiding me through each new project.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The first week of the internship was all training and induction; this involved a three day, all expenses paid stay at a hotel followed by a two day office induction with the other interns based at the same office. This really made me feel valued and supported by the firm and was a great way to get into the internship. For the rest of the time each intern had a people manager and a buddy, most of which were in the same line of service.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I had a lot of work to do and so I was kept busy all day. Different people in the team would approach me with work, from associates to managers and so I got a variety of work. Other days I struggled to find work to do, although I asked around for jobs at times there was nothing in for me to do or we had to wait for a large amount of time to get access to client data before I could start on anything.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In a company the size of Accenture you're never going to be 'running the show'. However the level of exposure and responsibility stretch way beyond what I had expected. During both my projects aforementioned I was operating with the same (if not more) responsibly as the first year graduates on my team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having now returned to my final year of University I have found my improved time management and prioritisation skills very useful with my studies. Further skills in communication will I'm sure help with upcoming group work.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Brilliant atmosphere. The Fenchurch Street office has a great feel to it and in my case both my clients had nice offices which I enjoyed spending time in. Canary Wharf was a great experience whilst working for a client there and the Edinburgh office of another client came alive during the summer months and fringe festival with everyone in a great mood!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very organised. A lot of effort was put into training the first week, organising for tutors from each department to take sessions with interns in those departments so that everyone went into the internship on almost a level footing. People managers and buddies were organised beforehand and in the most part they got in touch the week before the internship to answer any questions.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Different levels, many training courses were in offer and the firm was always happy to allow you trying new things. Innovation was strong encourages and knowledge sharing opportunities were endless. Even as an intern I was given the chance to share a workshop I created covering smart tips on Excel which was then posted on our internal Knowledge Exchange for the whole firm to use.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, conversion rates from placements and internships are very high if you excel in your role and prove your skills. I have an offer to rejoin the organisation after university. I was fortunate enough to be allowed a slight deferral of this offer as well, to allow some time for travelling after University.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very strong social scene between placement student and also other schemes run by Accenture. There were a number of organised events and time for bonding during the first week which is spent in a conference centre in London. Events included Halloween event, Christmas event and multiple leaving events as the different scheme lengths come to a finish.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive there is no denying that BUT you're paid a good wage for an undergraduate on placement certainly enough to live in London independently. Just be savvy with your money, budget well and if you are placed out of town during your placement this will help financially as the expense policy is good.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife of London is world famous; something to suit everyone. City drinking on Friday when everyone rolls out of the offices 'on time' to parties in far East London. During my stint of time in Edinburgh I was also fortunate enough to be there during the fringe where we found time after dinner to see an act or show most nights which was a brilliant atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The chances to get involved with charity were great. You have 3 charity days to take per year (totally separate to your annual leave). Apart from that there were some sports clubs, you can get involve with.
