    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my year out. Having a feel for the real world was very exciting and it was amazing to be completely independent and thrown into the deepend for a year!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This was a mix for me. My placement was split into two 6 month placements in two teams. One team was amazing and really appreciated me as an added resource to the team and I developed a lot in that role, whereas my other team didn't value me at all. My manager didn't give me much interesting work at all if he ever gave me any.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a very good support team. I was lucky to have been put in a very good team to start with who stuck with me through all my issues. One manager helped me with a part time job application for when I was back in university and he spent so much time on me which was really nice. Another team member who was a grade above me is literally like a brother to me. I gained amazing relationships in this placement.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I'd always wish I was busier. As soon as I had work I would try to get it done as soon as possible, which would then on times leave me with no work. In my good team, I would be very busy. In my bad team, I would be bored at my desk looking for things to do. This really does vary with who your management is.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was at one point in charge of an apprentice which I found was an amazing learning experience. I also had responsibility of my own contracts and procurements.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I cannot speak highly enough about the skills I gained. Before placement, I was useless at time management, organisation, and communication. After placement, I am so developed in these areas. My assignments have been started months in advance instead of days (which is what I stupidly did in first and second year) and these skills have really given me more ability to do my assignments well.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really fun and laid back! Everyone would talk to everyone, very friendly. Days like dress down Friday's really helped with this.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was the first placement student so they put me on half of their graduate scheme programme. It worked okay but could have been a lot more structured. It would make the biggest difference with a little more preparation.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In one case, I had a £2300 course paid for me, this is just one of the many courses. They really encourage training and development and would happily pay for any opportunities to further my ability and knowledge.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I now have a permanent part time job with them, which means I already have a graduate job. Im looking forward to a career with them!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was put in with the graduate scheme which was amazing for me. I now have friends for life. My manager and other colleagues are also very fun to have nights out with!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Considering I was in Bristol it wasn't too bad. I found a house share last minute which had cheap rent and people my age (another placement student and some third years students). Socialising was quite pricey though! Would just depend on where you went.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Amazing! Plenty of places to go, all of which ever completely different with different vibes. Very fun and full of energy! Would highly recommend Bristol.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots!! Many groups and classes that you can do. I did a little research and found a class where I met many friends.
