The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working with American Express for 10 weeks. It was an interesting, enlightening and constructive experience both professionally and personally.
The team that I was working with were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout the internship, helping me to settle in quickly and help me begin to deliver from day one.
I was equipped well from the off, provided with a list of relevant and helpful contacts. The placement encouraged me to become independent with my projects, using my initiative and seeking out help when needed.
I was very busy every day with a mixture of tasks. There were often opportunities to get out of the office which was also refreshing and enjoyable.
I was given ownership of two projects which I had to play a significant role in from the first day. The work I was given offered the opportunity for tangible results if completed correctly which was great.
I learnt a great deal about the corporate world, negotiating matrixed organisations and developing an agile approach to project analysis. These skills were only some of a comprehensive portfolio that I will be able to transfer going forward in my career.
The Company
The office had a relaxed yet productive atmosphere and the colleagues in my immediate vicinity were fantastic to talk to about my projects and also generally about my progress.
I can't fault the internship structure itself. Alongside being given concrete tasks to deliver on, the programme included a variety of activities outside of work, including trips to London and a community action day. As well as maintaining momentum throughout the course of the summer, these events also reinforced the wider culture of the company and helped the interns network with each other and other staff members,
The company showed from the very beginning of the programme that it was invested in your professional development and this was consistent throughout the summer and with all of the senior staff that I encountered.

I was offered a graduate role at the company!
The Culture
I was fortunate enough to have a great group of interns based in the office with me who I regard as good friends and helped me a lot throughout the programme. The events laid on by the company assisted in this happening.
I commuted so do not know the cost of rent in the area but Brighton is an amazing place to live and socialise.
I thoroughly enjoyed the nights out I had during the internship.
There were a range of groups linked to the company that I could have got involved with. There was a gym on sight which I used and I was aware of sports teams that I could have participated in.
