    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it to the extent that I did not realise how quickly time went by. The work etiquette and atmosphere is wonderful and I found it so easy to blend in as my colleagues treated me as one of them rather than an intern which made me feel welcomed from the very first day. It was the best job I had so far.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues there were always open for questions and I was always encouraged and welcomed by them to ask for help at anytime. They relied on me enough to assign me responsibilities from their duties. As well as having tasks entirely dedicated to me. In such a short time, I felt very close and in unison with my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel like I was given the perfect balance of support during my internship. I was not told everything which took away the challenges and enjoyment away from my tasks however I was given enough support to provide me guidance to handle my tasks. In terms of non-work related guidance, I was very well supported with my personal development and feedback of my progress throughout the internship which was of great help to me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would define busy as being swamped with an unrealistic amount of work to complete in a short amount of time or too many responsibilities to concentrate at a time. This certainly was not the case as I was part of the team making decisions and deciding/estimating deliverables realistically. I was able to take a short break for myself whenever and encouraged to do so in any case I felt overwhelmed or in need of relaxation. I do not remember being bored, overwhelmed or feeling like I have nothing to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My responsibilities were given out with my learning curve in mind as sometimes learning and applying went hand to hand during my internship. I always felt that I was shared enough responsibilities just as any other colleague of mine there. I also had my own responsibilities for the tasks I had to complete on my own which were very valuable to me to learn managing myself that stuck with me after my internship.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learned came very handy as soon as I went back to my degree and are now new additions to my skill set that will stick with me. Not only I refined my existing skills but I also improved my personal and professional skills in a way I am more aware of my abilities and professional presence. It exceeded my expectations of how much one could learn in such a short time.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a professional atmosphere with collaboration and communication being the key elements. Everybody synergised really well and knowledge was shared superbly and everyone was effectively aware of decisions and updates regarding work. My colleagues themselves were very laid back and always happy to chat about anything even unrelated to work. Many of them I became close friends with and familiar with pretty much everybody in such a short time. There would be team lunches which I enjoyed a lot and always time to go for a bite together after work,

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The campus team were very efficient in making use of the time. Everything was organised efficiently to provide us with the suitable experience while having room for fun activities such as hackathons or community days. I feel like I gained experiences more than just work related that I think makes this internship superior. From day zero to the final day, we were constantly aware of flow of the internship which was very helpful.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company really wanted us to shine and demonstrate our personal abilities. They set up the perfect conditions for us to thrive and bring the best out in us. They allowed us enough time to learn alongside work and more than often teach us themselves work or personal skills that will stick with me for life.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Personal development is never ending there which really appeals to me. The welcoming atmosphere and professional work environment are very appealing as well. Everybody sincerely cares very much and are attentive to detail in what they do that reflected on to me. Future employment prospects are the most appealing for these reasons and I am looking forwards to go back.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Days out, activities after work, lunches together and even events organised by the campus team were the social scene which brought not only the interns but the fellow colleagues together which were great fun therefore I would say the social scene was perfect.

  • Amazing. Brighton is a very colourful city with plenty of pubs, clubs and restaurants where you probably can't really run out of places to go to.
