The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working at Amex for the summer, I learnt so much and had a great time. I loved that they focused on how I could grow and develop to become successful in the workplace and beyond.
I felt very valued and was included in both design and implementation decisions from day 1. Whenever I spoke during a meeting, the rest of the team listened and didn't dismiss what I had to say.
The support from the internship team was second to none! Scott, the technology internship program manager, in particular was available basically 24/7 to assist us if we had an issue in or out of work. My project supervisor was very helpful if I needed guidance on what to do.
I found that there was an excellent balance of business, I never felt bored nor did I feel overworked.
I was given a decent amount of responsibility, comparable to previous internships. I felt my opinion really mattered in Amex, however.
I learnt tons over the summer at Amex, not just technology wise, but also in terms of personal development, both of which are very important to me and the latter usually is forgotten about by the majority of companies.
The Company
Work-orientated but also lively.
We had pre-joining interviews which allowed the internship team to individually place us in teams which matched our skills and interests. After that, we had over the phone meetings with our managers to make sure the team was a good fit for us and that we wouldn't be starting blind.
Numerous events were hosted specifically just for interns, including the Executive Speaker Series and Roundtables, which included talks from the CEO and the upper management. The community day was also a big highlight! It was great to give back to the community and bond with interns from other disciplines/parts of the company.

If you do well, and prove your skills and abilities during the internship, you should get offered a job at the end of it.
The Culture
Cost of living wasn't too bad. Rent is fairly expensive however.
Nightlife seemed great, I'm more a fan of pubs though and they were aplenty!
Yes, there were lots of events, sports in particular. I was never bored outside of work!
