The Role
I can not say that this has been the best job ever, but I really enjoyed my internship. It is definitely not an average. I believe that, I had an above average internship experience. However, nothing can be perfect. There were some issues I would like to have a different experience, but those are mostly small issues. It doesn't affect the general quality of the internship.
I was on a project that was having some resource issues. Our team was a bit small for that kind of project. That is why every single member of our team had been a very valuable resource, as well as me. One of project managers mentioned that senior engineer's work is forwarded to an internship who was me in this case. I felt absolutely valued in this situation.
My line-manager was providing me with all relevant information about the job. Especially, during the first week, I was a kind of person that asks every single question, but he did not get bored because of me and he answered all of my questions very patiently.
Except some days, there was a reasonable balance in the amount of works. However, some days, especially whenever a new release comes, I was having quite a lot work. I remember, once I even could not have a lunch due to loads of work.
It would be ridiculous to expect an intern to have all responsibility of the project, but there should be at least a same amount of responsibility as junior engineers. I had a reasonable amount of responsibility that in the case of failure will definitely affect the general quality of my job. For example, as a test engineer, retesting of existing bug and marking it as a "fixed" is very high responsibility for an internship. I should also mention that, during London tube strikes, I was only the person that could make it work and during these crucial days I was given more responsibility than normal days.
Currently they help me a lot. During my final year, my main course is the third year project. I aim to achieve outstanding results with my final year project. In the testing process of the project I use my testing skills that I gained ruing the internship at YouView. I should mention that, for this particular project, testing has an important role not just for creating a bug-free application, this is also required for creating a more accurate application. For this reason, the skills I learned during my internship is very useful and important right now.
