    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement! I did a variety of tasks, was given a lot of responsibility and made great friends. I was always encouraged to leave on time at the end of the working day as opposed to other placements where I've had to work way over the end of the day.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued at Asos, everyone took the time to appreciate what I was doing and let me suggest my own projects and tasks as well as giving me valuable work to do. I got to attend meetings and present ideas, my interests were taken into account and I was given work based on them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support by my managers, I had regular meetings and check ups to discuss my progress and if there was anything else that I would like to do. I asked my managers if I could stay and work over the summer as I was enjoying the experience so much, and they were so supportive and helpful in organising it for me!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • How busy I was varied depending on the day, sometimes i would be really busy with multiple tasks from different departments, whereas other days I would just be working on one large project for one person. I really learnt how to prioritise though and was able to improve my time keeping skills as a result.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • To start with I wasn't given very much, however as the placement progressed and I became more familiar with the managers I was given a lot more which was great! I got to go on a trip, take part in meetings, present my own work to a whole team and was given personal projects which involved going out of the office for research.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed a lot of skills in communication, organisation and time keeping over my placement which will be incredibly useful going into final year and beyond that a job! I've also learnt to work with different departments and have picked up a lot of practical skills and learnt how a high street online fashion retailer operates. Particularly the design team.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great! Everyone is so hard working but also very relaxed and chatty at the same time. There wasn't a single person I didn't get on with and have made some great friends who I will definitely keep in touch with. We did lots of collaborative projects as a whole team which helped bring everyone together

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well set up and organised, I was able to help my managers whilst also picking other areas within the team that I was interested in helping/learning more about. There were certain tasks and jobs that I was expected to complete as the intern, which were all explained to me when I joined.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given a lot of freedom to work on projects and presentations, and was sent on a trip as part of the creative research process to see all the graduate shows. For me it was more individual employees that invested in me; taking the time to train me and explain certain processes to me.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very appealing to me. I really loved working with the design team and enjoyed all the work I was set. I wasn't treated any differently as an intern and really felt like part of the team. I would absolutely love to go back and work with the design team.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As the only intern in the design team I didn't really get to meet any fellow placement students. However there was a good social scene among my colleagues in the design team. After work events were arranged and trips to exhibitions or to see films. A lot of us would go to lunch together and spend time getting food or drinks after work on Fridays.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London in general is very expensive and as I have lived here for 4 years I'm used to the prices so it's not really a problematic factor for me. You just have to organise your spending. Luckily the placement is paid which makes socialising easier and lets you enjoy the placement more.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area is great, a lot of choice for evening activities. Including bars, pubs, restaurants, shops, music venues, clubs etc. Everyone tends to go to one of the bars after work on Friday which is nice. In the summer months the working hours on Fridays are shorter which means you have more time to enjoy the area.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • ASOS offers a lot of oppurtunities, as a placement student I wasn't able to engage with many of them though mainly due to time constraints and wanting to prove myself in my position. However if I was a full time employee there I would definitely engage in the out of work opportunities offered.
