    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement year was really enjoyable- I felt very welcomed from the beginning and the company make a special effort ensuring this is the case. I got on really well with the other members in my team and I wasn't treated like an intern but as a permanent employee.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt really valued by my team members inside and outside of the work place. ASOS are really good in making their interns feel like permanent employees in the sense that they will ensure that the interns are involved in the big important meetings with management. They also have away days before big meetings where everyone is encouraged to put in ideas to the upcoming strategy.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There wasn't a point through my placement year when I felt I couldn't ask my AM or merchandiser for help or guidance- no matter how busy my managers were they always found time to help me if I needed it. I also found the objectives really helpful as it gave me guidance and goals to work towards throughout the year. I had 1:1's with my AM every other week where I could talk through any work or personal related issues.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy on a daily basis but personally this suited me well. As everyone around you is in the similar situation the more you have to do the more involved you are with the tasks. There were certain times where I felt overwhelmed with my work load but my manager was really good in supporting me through this.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I found that I was given more responsibility the more I proved myself, which was good as it made me work harder to gain this. There were areas of the department which I would solely manage myself which made me feel valued. I was also doing certain AM tasks by the end of my placement year.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There were so many skills I learnt during my placement year that I will use in final year and beyond- communication skills in particular, presentation skills, team working skills, excel and numerical skills, time management skills, organisation skills and many more!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • ASOS has a very fast paced office environment. This was really good as it felt like you were part of a big team. For the majority of the year this made the office experience really fun and a great atmosphere but for busier times the office environment could become quite stressed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really well organised- I couldn't fault it! I felt supported the whole way through my placement from both the people team and my managers. I know that every interns experience is different depending on which department they are put on but everyones was very similar in the sense that they were guided through it with support.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were loads of training programmes available for us to utilise. There were certain administrative training programmes that were mandatory but there were also personality training sessions that we could book on to within working hours to develop our personal skills such as presentation skills, negotiation skills, communication skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Travel loan

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Really appealing- it is evident being a intern at ASOS that as a permanent employee there are opportunities to work your way up the company and be promoted. We had a meeting with a member of the people team during my year who educated us on the promotion opportunities and told us that ASOS will always try and employ within the company to open up further positions for internal employees.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a really good social scene at ASOS not just with the other students but with the whole company as well. ASOS are really good at rewarding their employees for the hard work they put in. As interns we were encouraged to socialise within ourselves and the people team organised a couple of social events as well as us organizing them ourselves.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted at home but the travel to work was fairly expensive. The cost of socialising was relatively cheap compared to other areas in London depending on which place you went to. There are a few good cheap places to eat near the office but the location of the office is pretty central so it's easy to get around London regardless.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are a couple of good pubs situated right next to the ASOS office which most ASOS employee's went to on a Thursday or Friday evening. This was a good place to socialise but other than that there wasn't too many great places to go out at night. The office is situated pretty central so it's easy to get to other places in London on the tube or a bus.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I had some good social event outings with my team during my year which were organised by my managers internally. There were also charity events put on by management outside of work during working hours. I also went to gym classes in the basement of the office a couple of times a week which were really good and cheap.
