The Role
I found the placement an enjoyable experience overall, even though it was challenging at times.
Zircon has a professional, friendly, flexible and relaxed working environment.
Colleagues were always happy to assist with any problems.
This would depend on the current amount of work that the company had, some days we’re busier than others but there was always something useful to be done.
I was given a wide range of tasks and responsibility. I was trusted to manage an individual project and to co-manage a team based project.
Plenty of training was provided. Personally, I learned a new programming language ‘on the job’, along with improving communication and general IT skills.
The Company
We would have the radio on during the day, unless customers were visiting.
The interview process was simple compared to other companies and any questions were answered quickly.
The company offered free basic training for the C# language and OOP concepts.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
There are different positions available at Zircon, they do consist of the same general role but also specify in a particular area of the development process.
The Culture
Some social events were organised, including a skittles night and the Christmas party. Expenses were paid for at these events.
I lived in a different area to where I worked and commuted on the train.
The only nightlife experienced was a meal at the local Chinese restaurant after the company AGM. There are other places available in the area.
Where I lived, there were plenty of activities available.
