    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my work placement at DB. The main reason for this was the fact that I was given real work to perform throughout the 9 weeks.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I received great support from everyone in my team, and everyone I spoke to outside my team. You are not treated like an intern, but as someone who is a potential value-add to the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Guidance & support received from my manager was excellent, and he was always there to answer any questions/queries I may have had. As an intern, he also allowed me to sit in on his meetings which were not relevant to my projects, which helped me gain a greater understanding of the team's tasks.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days I was busy and always had something to be doing. However, the team I was placed in worked on a monthly basis, so after working day 15, there was less work to be performed in general. Also, in the last week there was not as much for me to do (which is understandable). This being said, when compared to others' experience, I felt that I had been kept adequately busy throughout.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was given a good deal of responsibility. By the middle of the internship, I was leading meetings & helped organise data that was being presented to the MD's on our floor.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills I learnt will be very useful for the future, however they are unlikely to come of much use at university.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It wasn't as busy, or hectic, as you would expect an I-bank's office to be.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This is one of the hallmarks of the DB internship scheme in London. The organisation of the programme is excellent. We received details of each & every lecture/seminar etc that we were expected to attend, and were noted of any delays/cancellations. In my previous internship, it took me almost a week to get set-up with a laptop & phone-line. At DB this was all set-up when I arrived.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Another cornerstone of this internship is the exposure that you will receive to key staff members throughout the 9 weeks. DB also provided presentation skills training & business etiquette training which was extremely insightful. This being said, the "induction" training was exciting (in terms of meeting other interns and having a quiet week before work) but I feel that it did not provide sufficient/useful knowledge for the job required.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very good. For the class of 2011, a vast majority of the interns who wanted a graduate role at DB were offered a contract.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We all got along well, and as such, I feel that due to the situation we are in, it is difficult not to do so.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's london. Enough said?

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Our class didn't seem to go out much in terms of clubbing etc, but London being London, I'm sure that the nightlife is awesome.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. My hours were usually 08.30 to 06.45, which meant that I was free in the evenings to do whatever I liked, as long as I was able to turn up at 08.30 the next day and perform well.

    4/5
