The Role
I've really enjoyed my time here at YouView. The work that I've been set has been interesting and has kept me busy. Everyone in the office is really friendly and approachable and with the general atmosphere being relaxed it was easy to settle in.
I've felt like an important member of the finance team. The other members of the team, as well as everyone else in the office, have treated me like a regular employee and haven't just seen me as "the finance intern", which has been reflected in the work that I've been set.
The members of the finance team have given me plenty of support throughout my placement. Whenever I've had any problems, general queries, or issues outside of work, the team have always made time to help me. If they saw any training courses or workshops that they thought would help me, they would always let me know and were willing to sign me up.
Although I have been generally busy during the whole time of the placement, there are times with in each month that have made me busier, for example month end. During the times that I had less work to do, it allowed me to catch up on small tasks that I'd put to one side and concentrate on the project that I'd be set.
I have been given a number of responsibilities during my time at YouView including preparation of payment runs, bank, credit card and some payroll reconciliations, invoicing the shareholders and was given a project to do the fixed asset inventory reconciliation and deciding which assets, that were fully expensed, needed replaced.
The skills that I've developed at YouView will be incredibly useful for my final year and my future career. My accounting skills have improved through some of the tasks I've done including being involved in the posting of journals during month end. It has also helped by giving me experience of being in the work environment and seeing how a finance team operates.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office is relaxed and everyone is really friendly and approachable, which made it easy to settle in to the role. With having Casual Friday's, bake sales and a Mario Kart tournament, it helped to make the office more friendly and sociable than it already was.
I felt that the work placement was well organised. The finance team had ideas of the tasks that I'd be performing and the responsibilities they would give me, ensuring that I've always had some work to do. In the finance role, not everything can be planned exactly, but I feel the team have been organised.
In terms of personal training and development, YouView has been helpful. Other members of the finance team have invested their time to help teach me their finance processes and how to use any pieces of accounting software that are used. If there were any courses or workshops that I was interested in attending, then YouView was happy to pay any of the expenses I incurred.

The future employment prospects with YouView are quite appealing, due to the experience I've had of working here so far.
The Culture
The social scene amongst the placement students and colleagues was really good. With there being a social committee, there was always something on or planned. This included new starter drinks, summer and Christmas parties, a company wide pub quiz, a Mario kart competition as well as just going to the pub with the other interns for a few drinks.
In central London, everything is expensive.
There are several bars in the local area, so there was always a choice of where to go to for drinks.
There have been opportunities to get involved with activities like the YouView running club and the YouView 5-7 a side (depending on how many people came) football.
