    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • It was extremely insightful and a great opportunity. I now have first hand knowledge of how the industry works and know exactly what segment I would like to get into.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • I was treated like a team member, my opinions were taken very seriously and were valid. I was made aware of all decisions made and was part of any meetings held by my team members.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • I was given full support by my manager who helped me every step of the way. He made sure I was heavily involved with not only my objectives but with other projects related to it. My manager was always very happy to help me better my skills in industry by correcting and guiding me through the right paths.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • In the first 2-3 weeks I would say I was moderately occupied which was helpful because most of what I was doing was getting me acquainted with the way the business and its systems worked. After I had learned the basic things to carry on with work I became a lot more busy with my objectives and projects until the end of the placement.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was given a lot of responsibility e.g setting up tests, attending meetings with senior managers, taking final decisions on design options etc. My capabilities were very trusted which was a fantastic thing because I was completely immersed in the business workings.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • It has assisted me in terms of knowing how t structure documents, how to design devices more clearly, it improved my CAD skills and presentation skills as well as showed me the required steps to follow in creation of a new device which has proved extremely useful in my final year of studies.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • The people were very friendly and helpful. It was a welcoming atmosphere.

    • It was quite well organised.

    • The company highly invested in me as I was given the necessary training required to carry out work in the industry successfully.

    • I have received an offer to join the graduate placement scheme.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • The social scene was very good, we even had all sorts of communication pages where we all helped out with lifts, discussions and planned social activities that we could all attend. It was a good social scene.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • It was not very expensive but also was not cheap due to transportation to that area. Transportation was probably one of the biggest issues. Due to its remote location fuel costs were always high and if you didn't have a car it proved more challenging to get to work. However company buses were provided from coventry and Birmingham airports.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

    • Due to the location there was almost no nightlife in the area. You would have to drive to the nearest city which was about a 40 minute drive away.

    • yes there were numerous opportunities.
