    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved my year at ASOS, the company and the team have a great energy that really made me look forward to coming into work each day. The atmosphere was always friendly and positive and I found that there was always someone to talk to if I was finding something difficult. I made a lot of good friends and the social side of the job was great.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone on the People Team was friendly and welcoming and made an effort to get to know me. I really felt like part of the team and that I was making a valued contribution to the business. There wasn't anyone on the team that I felt like I couldn't talk to or approach if I needed advice or an opinion on my work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt like I was completely supported throughout my year at ASOS, I was comfortable when asking for help and guidance or checking in with my manager if there was something I wasn't completely sure of. I had weekly one to one catch ups with my manager where we discussed what was on my agenda for that week, how I was feeling about the workload and any other general topics, this really helped me focus my workload and reach goals and targets.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always comfortably busy at ASOS, I never felt as though there was a moment where there was nothing to do - something that I found to be a positive. The type of work varied depending on the day of the week or the time of the month so I had to stay on top of my workload, I enjoyed the fact that I could get involved in many different projects on top of completing my main duties.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the same amount of responsibility as the non-placement employees who were also doing a similar job, this was something I really felt helped me focus and develop in my role, I didn't feel as though I was being held back due to the fact it was my first year in industry.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel as though the day to day skills I learnt whilst at ASOS have definitely helped me in my final year of study so far, I have become more confident in my own ability and know that I am able to make a positive contribution to any task set no matter how small. My basic skills such as time management, organisation, eye for detail and prioritisation have also improved, helping me during assignments and projects.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere at ASOS was always positive and energetic, if you were having a down day there was always someone around to cheer you up! Although everyone was busy the general feeling in the office was relaxed and allowed you to get on with your workload. Everyone enjoyed socialising together outside of work which was a great way to get to know the team, everyone at ASOS loves what they do and works hard to be the best that they can be.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was set up well, all of the interns had a group induction where we learnt the ASOS basics, a bit of history about the business and other exciting things like staff perks and benefits. Training sessions each month brought the interns together as well as more role specific training that you could sign up to yourself. Although I was in a People Admin role the team encouraged me to try out other aspects of HR allowing me to help out with assessment centres, interviews and graduate careers fairs - I really felt as though they wanted me to get the most out of my placement year as possible.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt as though my training and development was really well invested in by the company. Almost each month we received training from the learning and development team in many different areas from becoming a confident presenter to improving our negotiation skills - these sessions were set up purely for placement students so were tailored especially to us. Outside of these sessions if there was something you were looking to learn or improve everyone has time to help, even if it's just a case of sitting beside them for half an hour whilst they demonstrate something on their computer, nobody

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Really appealing, although ASOS are not able to guarantee a future job whilst on placement I would love to go back if there is a vacancy once I have graduated!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the placement students were friendly and we would see each other at the training events and Friday drinks, as you spent most of your time with your specific team I enjoyed the social side of things more often with them. I made some great friends that made my year in London great, there was always someone around for lunch, a coffee or a drink after work!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living and socialising is London is always going to be more expensive than in other cities, as I was new to the area I got to know the cheaper places to eat and drink from housemates and colleagues! There were plenty of fairly good value places to get lunch near work, and being in Camden there was always something to do or see after work. I lived a walk away so saved money as I didn't have to spend any money on the tube/bus.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Camden was always fun, there is a good mixture of pubs and music venues as well as a couple of late night clubs such as the Jazz Cafe and Proud. As a team we visited London Zoo Lates which was a fun alternative to a usual night out!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As a team we socialised out a work most weeks, especially in the summer with the early Friday finish. ASOS put on loads of activities such as movie nights, charity runs, yoga classes as well as the amazing summer and christmas parties! If you are willing to have a laugh and get involved there was always something going on!
