    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Our pharmacy had a problem with a gas leak from the sewage works which made the staff feel unwell, sometimes this would continue after work. The atmosphere where we worked wasn't very happy and I am quite a shy person so didn't feel able to interrupt my tutor to ask questions or get help to do the tasks required of me in the learning booklet (these I did when there were locums around).

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All the dispensary and health care counter ladies were so lovely, and in such a small team you really got to know everyone.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I think I need more encouragement in being able to ask questions and complete tasks. I didn't feel like I had support to do many of the tasks in the booklet.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • How busy we were was highly variable. Sometimes we were potentially over staffed in which case throughout the day there wasn't a great deal to do, on other days I would be the only one in the dispensary with the pharmacist until lunch time. As a summer placement student I was supposed to be extra, rather than the only one, but we actually managed just fine.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the responsibility to complete each job that I took on, for instance the express repeat prescription service, where I found something that didn't match up, I was respsonsible for finding out what had gone on and resolving any issues.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In the last placement I did with Boots I worked solely on the health care counter, while in lloyds I spen most of my time in the dispensary. I learnt alot about the names of the commonly used drugs for many conditions and improved hugely in my accuracy and speed for dispensing. I am also now much better at spotting interactions between drugs, and for the ones that I encountered looked up how it occurred which has enriched my learning

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The book we had to work through was great and everything was inplace for us to be done. However I was moved a couple of weeks before we were due to start, and then again the day before and as such the pharmacy didn't know i was coming, and didn't know what they were supposed to do with me the first few days I was there.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training day was good, although it would have been great to have another one at the end. It was for third years very much aimed towards doing pre-reg which for someone who had already agreed to do their pre-reg placement with another company felt a bit of a waste. I did enjoy and found the section on hayfever helpful, although it was a bit late in the season for hayfever.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have already got a job for the first year when i graduate but I would be very happy to work for lloyds after that.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • No social things with the students went on outside of work.

    1/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Bath is an expensive city to live in, and I don't really go out much.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I don't really go out, so I couldn't really say

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I had a really busy 6 weeks so was away every weekend, and had lots of things going on in the week planned before.
