    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was really enjoyable. I worked with the Translation Team. It has been a great experience that's given me the possibility to start working in what I like and for what I have been studying for a long time. I particularly know I enjoyed the experience because of the team I was working for and maybe my experience wouldn't have been as great in other teams. I would definitely do this again and I recommend it to everyone interested in developing a career with in management and translation.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by most of my colleagues. The colleagues are really nice, they make sure they recognise your work and achievements by "praising" you in the company's social media and other platforms. They have always been very grateful for my help and they always make sure they let me know. You feel like you are just one more of the team very very quicly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My mentor was as good as it can be. She's tought me an incredible amount of things in just four months. She's always been there for me to help me when I needed her, but has also encourage me to be independent and resourceful. You can tell all mentors care a lot about their intern's growth and development. She's one of those persons I'll remember for the rest of my life. I was also given guidance but other members of my team. They are always willing to teach you and help you.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During the four months, I had only 3 days in which I was relaxed and had barely anything to do. The rest of the time I have quite busy, which has helped me improve my organisation skills and time management. Sometimes I did feel I was too busy. Well, not just me, but the whole team. Specially during the holidays period when some of my holidays were on their anual leave and we had to cover for them.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • One of the first things that most surprised me when I started the internship is that they give you a LOT of responsability very quickly. This of course makes you feel valued and trusted by your colleagues. I got to manage a lot of clients of my own, translate, manage corporate clients and do the final QAs on really big projects.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I have discovered a new career path thanks to this internship. I was not considering becoming a Project Manager before, but now I definitely see it as one option for the future. I definitely have improve many many skills, from comunication, organisation, prioritation, I have also developed new IT skills, recruitment, working to tight deadlines, as well as other more general skill like team work.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office is really good, relaxed and fun. Everybody that works there is friendly and is really nice to deal with them. You get to know everybody in the company and in a way work with almost all of them at some point during the internship. Although everybody is very professional, the atmosphere is relaxed.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I would say it is quite well organised. They get a lot of interns so they are used to it. From the beginning you get introduced to everyone in the company. You basically learn most of the things on the go, although they also give you a lot of reading to do at the beginning. You have meetings with your mentor every now and then, which is really helpful to know how are you doing. They also accept your feedback if you think something is not going as well as you would like.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training you receive as part of the internship is quite good. You have training sessions with your mentor, specially at the beginning but also at a later stage if you believe you need more help with some specific part of your job. Also, a workshop was also organised by one of my colleagues and it was extremly helpful, not only for me as an intern, but for everyone in the company.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very good. While I was on my third month of the internship there was a job opening in one of the other teams. After applying and going trough all different recruitment steps (CV, cover letter, interview..) I was offer a position as Project Executive. The prospects even after that job are also very good.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is always quite a few interns in the company at the same time and the relationship between us is very good. Dinners and drinks after work are organised regularly. As mentioned before, everybody that works there is friendly and professional, which makes socialising very easy. You feel like you are one more member of the team very quickly, which also helps socialise.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living costs around the area is quite high as well as socialising costs. But this would happen almost everywhere in London so the company cannot be blamed for it. Nevertheless, there are quite a few place to buy lunch that are not too expensive. Rent prices in that area are also quite high, therefore renting a place around the office is not very recommendable.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I haven't been exposed to the "Nightlife" in that area apart from a couple of local pubs. But I assume it is nice but expensive as in almost everywhere in London.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were quite a few opportunities, from Table Tennis at the office after work, drinks with colleagues... Some colleagues also organised charitable activities, usually related to sport/running. Apart from that there were many other opportunities. Maybe this is something that could be improve, team building, but with the whole company to try to get to know each other a bit better.
