    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was so well rounded I thoroughly enjoyed being able to experience all aspects of the business.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All of the work I was given was of value to the colleagues I was working with and all of them made me feel extremely welcome and valued especially when it came to the work I completed for them.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was extremely helpful - always on the end of the phone or an email if I ever needed anything which admittedly wasn't often but when I did there was always someone I could talk to.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always kept busy during my placement and was told from the outset that I would be worked hard - this was true but a real emphasis was put on only working the contracted hours and this helped a lot with maintaining a work life balance.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility from the beginning whether that be from running a shift in store and being the safe holder to having my own projects to work on in different departments. I was given lots of responsibility and that was a major factor in why I enjoyed the placement so much.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have gained during this year will help me in the future no end - from retail experience to leadership skills, cv writing, interview technique and lots of other things. Particularly communication skills with all different types of people and cultures.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in every office i worked in was extremely friendly and welcoming. There was a good mix of ages and types of people so there was always someone different to talk to and have a laugh. It was a good balance between having a laugh and getting down to work. There was a,ways staff events and Christmas parties that we were invited to and while working in head office even invited to play sports etc with the office teams.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was extremely well organised with a calendar of dates available in the handbook right from the beginning so you knew what needed doing and by when. All the departments ŵere well informed about the arrival of the placement students and they were provided with documents so that they knew exactly what aspects of their departments we should be learning about during out time with them. All of the information and help that was available to us helped massively in ensuring I never felt lost or unsure about where I was supposed to be and when.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company placed a massive emphasis on training and helping placement students. I was given training in so many different areas and got to work with a lot of senior managers with years of experience. We were also given a good understanding of the workings of the business and even received training certificates by completing a course in leadership skills and some training in cv writing and interview technique to help us with getting a job in the future.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Car

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are lots of employment prospects for me within Lidl and I will definitely be making applications for a few different jobs with them. They were a pleasure to work for and I would love the opportunity to work for them again in the future.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes I had another placement student in the same region as myself and we were able to spend time together but we also had about 4 or 5 national meetings where we met up with all the other placement students and had a meal and drinks together which was really nice - it was good to meet everyone and hear about all the different experiences in different regions.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was able to stay living at home and therefore the cost of living was extremely cheap for me. Especially as I live in the north of England where cost of living is much lower. This was extremely good as it allowed me to save plenty of money during my time working.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is good and there are plenty of places to go out around the north region if that is what you're looking for. As. Stated in the previous question I remained living at home and so the nightlife was the same as always for me but ere is plenty of places to go.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were some opportunities although not that many - due to the region being so big people working within the distribution centre travel from all over and so they don't tend to meet up outside of work very often - although there was plenty of opportunity for myself and the other placement student to meet up.

    4/5
