About You
I enjoyed it thoroughly as I managed to complete my main objective of going for the discovery day, to discover what BP is, what it stands for, as well as to see if it suits me as a future workplace.
Could be shorter as people were asking a lot of questions that could be answered if they actually bothered to read BP's website.
Everyone who talked to us were very nice and accommodating, answering questions to the best of their ability based on their experience as well as sharing their personal experiences.
The discovery day allowed me to confirm my desire to work with the company, and the information received definitely did answer a lot of my questions regarding the application process to BP.
The Company
It was good. The discovery day was well planned, allowing us to not only hear from the people who worked in different divisions within the company but also let us see the actual workplace and feel the ambience.
Though a bit tacky, as people definitely did not understand what smart casual was. Though it made me feel quite the idiot, I gained lots of insights with regards to BP, and made acquaintances with others in the same situation as I did.
Time. The fact that BP was willing to organise such an event for us was gratifying, not only that, but people of high positions made time to talk to us and share with us more about the company. That was a really nice gesture on BP's part.
As I mentioned, the workplace environment was clear to us as we were brought around the place. Employees also took time to share their experiences with us and thus allowed us to see how working with BP is. However, it was only for a day thus a FULL time role may turn out to be a whole new experience.
Culture is defined by the people, hence as BP assigned people of different positions and divisions to talk to us, I believe I understand the company culture better than before.
As a discovery day, I thought BP did well if it was for possible future employees/interns to understand how the company runs and the different divisions they have, thus the content of the day could be said to be valuable.
Everything Else
No harm done, it was generous enough that they were willing to spend time with us, hence I did not see the need to be compensated monetarily.
Yes. BP allowed us to network with different staff in different positions, not only did they share with us their personal experiences but also answered our questions to the best of their abilities.
The event was pretty informal and thus we were given many opportunities to actually network with the staff.
As questions asked and information shared were primarily regarding working with and in BP, there was little sharing about involvement outside work.
Yes, I would, to a friend who is interested in the oil, gas and energy industry but yet uncertain about how it is actually like.
