The Role
It was hugely varied with my role - I got a really good chance to visit suppliers and meet many people in the fresh food category which I enjoyed. I also got chance to understand different categories around the business.
There was weekly 1-2-1's with my line manager and I also had a buddy who was extremely helpful to my own development. They both helped me to settle in and progress.
Regular 1-2-1's with positive and constructive feedback allowed me to move forward at a healthy pace. I was also trusted with a good amount of responsibility so that my ability was stretched and tested.
At the start I was not so busy as I was settling in, learning new areas of work and meeting different colleagues around the business. But once the internship progressed I was afforded more responsibility and my workload increased to the point where my time management skills really developed.
I was given 2 main projects. One to engage with dairy farmers through Tesco's online supplier platform and the other was to lead a topic for discussion on water usage in the supply chain - for this I needed to become an expert in this area to engage with the suppliers on the issue.
I developed my communication skills and learnt the ability to adapt different styles of communications based on the situation which will go far in any walk of life that I chose.
The Company
The office has limitations for atmosphere as it is a corporate office. However, the employees don't ever have strings attached by a bureaucratic leadership structure. Everyone is free to express their personality and the company is actively moving towards the modern office environment of hot-desks, flexible working and own-clothes days.
Had a clear structure of training and inductions.
Seen as though we were there for 10 weeks which isn't long, I feel a lot of energy and emphasis was placed on the development of the interns. Jason Tarry, the Chief Product Officer, even gave us an hour one morning for us to ask him searching questions on the direction of the business and business area.

Very.
The Culture
Yes. Although this was organised mainly through intern who was the 'social sec' - similar to a university society social sec. However, the intern leaders have taken this into account and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't encourage this again because they were really impressed with how well we gelled as an internship group.
High.
Nightlife around the actual office is dire. But, you're only a 30 minute train into London...
Not really - I Joined a 5-a-side team. But I had to go looking for it. I wish there was a sign-up sheet for us at the start for sports teams.
