    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was great, the team was young and professional with alot of energy. i got involved in all kinds of office tasks from booking clients in and bringing them to China (sales based) to social media and marketing all the way to designing new posters and materials for use online and in China. This kind of experience is very valuable to me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much so, because they are a young team, they treated me like i was part of the permanent staff from day one. involving me in company meetings, valuing my input on decisions. Even asking my opinions on marketing and company strategy. This was a very nice feeling for a student who has no previous work experience and I feel i gained alot from it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Any time i had a question i could either ask the branch manager or the design/marketing manager. They always had time to help me or even give me further training in the areas i was interested in. I furthered my skills in Customer relation management and even in photoshop and video editing. You never know when these skills will come in handy in the future! The management are so friendly too, always taking us out on company dinners and outings!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Because i did a summer internship i was very busy. The companies majority of clients arrive in summer so every day was a new challenge and a different set of tasks. You really learn alot about time management when you are so busy! Its great! Towards the end of my internship the company moved into its main marketing season so then i got busy on the digital side of the business. Some evenings and weekends I would have to work overtime but this is great because i could then take longer holidays to see more of china!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Like i said before, because the company is young and only established in 2006, everyones opinions are respected and valued. If i showed interest in one area of the business then i could get a mini management role for certain tasks such as organising a trip to beijing for 20 people or being head blogger and organising the blogs for the business setting tasks for the other staff and interns. This was great and looks perfect on my cv!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I majored in international business so i didnt really have an idea which sector i wanted to go into, this internship helped me realise that i enjoy marketing and business development so after i graduated i continued with this and have used many ideas which i learnt in InternChina to bring to my new job. such as ways to organise the sales online and how to push sales through and develop a business in a foreign country

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very fun and relaxed overall. We had a beer on friday afternoons during out weekly team meeting, also going out together after work for dinner alot of the time. Also in the office there are other interns (2-3 in summer) so this is good. Someone to share the same experience with and explore china together. in The office there is a mix of western and chinese staff, all eager to share cultural stories and learn about each other and their business ethics. very interesting and fun.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It is InternChinas business to organise great internships in China so you can imagine their internal internship programme is on point. They have 2-3 interns in each of their offices all through the year so they are not new the idea of interns! They have a manual for training and the organisation of the internship is very polished and rehearsed. This is nice and i always felt i could ask for more work if i didnt have anything to do (which never happened as i was always trying to keep on top of the work!)

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you do well with internchina then they have the capacity to make a role for you. I felt that if i wanted to go back to China to work, then i could approach internchina and they could give me a marketing or business development role. They dont like to lose good people... if you think youre a good intern and want prospects in asia then i fully recommend an internship with internchina!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • InternChinas offices are based in second tier cities in China.. so they are very cheap to live in! Considering how nice the cities are they are suprisingly cheap for transport, food and rent. On average i spent around 4 euros per day (which included food and transport!) the rest of my money i spent on cheap fashionable clothes and souvenirs for my family! To go out to bars it is cheap and in some of the clubs they even give free drinks to foreigners as standard!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Its china, everything is cheap and friendly! I was always hanging out with colleague or chinese friends which i made. PLaying badminton, going to the gym, visiting chinese families to get their culture and homecoooking! every night someone was asking to do something. Especially during summer when there are hundreds of interns in the city all looking to have fun and try new things. so easy to tag along, make new friends and have amazing experiences!
