Education required:
To apply for this placement, you must be:
Currently studying an Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Economics, Sustainability, Public Health, Engineering, Manufacturing, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences or related.
Please read the degree requirements for each role carefully before applying.
Other requirements: You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) University for the duration of your placement.
If you have already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.
Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English
Expected Start date: July 2025
Duration: 1 year (approximately)
Salary: A salary of £24,700 plus a bonus.

The Roles (3 available)

Role 1 – Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer
Roles available – Ware
Degree requirements: Environmental Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Manufacturing Safety
Overview of the Department
The site EHS team typically comprises 13 permanent staff members, in addition to an EHS apprentice, an industrial placement student, and a graduate program student. All team members are EHS professionals, many of whom specialize in specific topics and serve as Subject Matter Experts for the site. The EHS team operates across the Ware Campus, managing and overseeing all site EHS matters.
Key Placement Activities
- Undertake Risk Assessments and develop the site Machinery Safety improvement program.
- Own elements of the Contractor safety improvement program.
- Improve EHS training methods to include new technologies/methods by keeping up to date on health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations.
- Use EHS data analysis to improve EHS performance by understanding the impact of the workplace on the environment and how to minimize negative effects.
- Analyse procedures and standards to both simplify and improve our approach and implement preventative measures, as well as deliver training programmes to staff.
- Gain skills in emergency response planning by preparing for and responding to workplace emergencies.
- Join and be an active member of one of the Employee Resource groups.
Role 2 – Environment, Health & Safety Associate
Roles available – Worthing
Degree requirements: Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering or other relevant Engineering degree subject.
Overview of the Department
The Worthing EHS department supports the safe day to day operations of the site tablets manufacturing process, operational engineering and capital project delivery, quality, waste management, and security arrangements. Expertise within the team span from, but not limited to, Industrial Hygiene, Process Safety, Workplace Transport, Occupational Health, Emergency Response, Chemical & Biological Agents, and Waste Management.
Key Placement Activities
- Conducting Risk Assessments to identify potential hazards and implementing strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Developing and implementing safety programs
- Supporting EHS Audits
- Data analysis and reporting - analysing EHS performance data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
- Enhancing EHS technology usage
- Environmental Sustainability initiatives
- Managing and leading EHS projects from inception to completion, including planning, execution, and evaluation.
Role 3 – Central Sustainability
Roles available – GSK HQ London
Degree requirements – Geography, Environmental Sciences, Economics, Sustainability, Public Health, Chemistry, Engineering, Natural sciences, Political Science, Public Policy
Overview of the Department

The department delivers on our contribution by avoiding and reducing our impacts on nature across our value chain, protecting and restoring nature, and accelerating collective action on nature.
Key Placement Activities
- Apply a sustainability, business, and partnerships mindset to practical applications such as reviewing internal data and external trends.
- Support the evaluation of external collaboration proposals and liaise with internal stakeholders for knowledge sharing via remote and in-person meetings.
- Support and communicate research on sustainability topics (water, waste, land, climate) to inform decisions on their integration into the sustainability programme.
- Support the assessment and monitoring of sustainability programmes, partnerships, and external reporting across the Central Sustainability Team.
- Provide insights based internal and external data using platforms including Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI.
- Ability to distil key messages and information in a succinct way for sharing with stakeholders within and beyond the sustainability team .
- Handle administrative tasks related to collaboration project management and develop a business mindset.
